**Job Overview**

The Occupational Medical Practitioner/Occupational Medical Physician will be responsible for overseeing occupational health and medical services for Tronox Namakwa Sands.

This role involves designing and delivering Occupational Health and Occupational Hygiene programs. The practitioner will serve as the primary point of contact with external health authorities, health professionals, regulatory bodies, employees, and contractors.

  • This includes taking responsibility for operational requirements for all aspects of occupational health within the business.

**Key Responsibilities**

  1. The practitioner will oversee the implementation of the medical surveillance and control program at three clinics.
  • This includes:
    • Developing policies, standards, protocols, procedures, and codes of practice for the medical surveillance and control program.
    • Verifying medical facility and equipment specifications necessary for the program.
    • Conducting job specification assessments for homogeneous exposure groups.
    • Ensuring medical examinations and reviews comply with legal requirements and COPs.
    • Managing occupational health-related injuries and illnesses.
  • Providing guidance to Occupational Health Nursing Practitioners (OHN) on occupational and radiation health issues.
  • Maintaining awareness of and advising management on occupational, radiation, and health-related matters.
  • Offering primary healthcare services.
  • Overseeing medical placements based on Occupational Risk Exposure Profiles.

**Work Schedule**

The practitioner will be required to work at various sites, including the Mine at Brand-se-Baai (3 days per week), Mineral Separation Plant (MSP) at Koekenaap (1 day per week), and Smelter at Saldanha (1 day per week).

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB)
  • Post-Graduate qualification in Occupational Medicine
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in medicine in occupational health and occupational medical surveillance in a mining setup
  • Appointed Medical Practitioner (AMP) training recognized by the NNR
  • Registered by the HPCSA as competent to act independently as a medical practitioner
  • Code B driver's license

  • You should possess a medical degree, relevant occupational health certifications, and a strong understanding of workplace safety regulations.
