Oral Hygienist

**Requirements**:

- Diploma / Degree in Oral Hygiene from an accredited institution
- A postgraduate qualification will be an advantage
- Registration with the HPCSA in the category independent practice, and proof of current registration
- Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience
- Driver’s licence is a requirement
- Knowledge of and skills in clinical oral hygiene to provide professional treatment for the patient
- Experience in teaching, supervising and assessing students in clinical and classroom environments is an advantage
- Understanding of current health and public service legislation, regulations and policies; including related to training of students
- Research and report writing skills are an advantage
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Publications will be an added advantage

**Duties**:

- Provide a comprehensive array of assessment and treatment procedures within the Oral Hygienist scope of practice
- Teach, train, assess and supervise Oral Hygiene students
- Practice and maintain infection control standards, in addition ensure adherence to strict quality control measures
- Provide reports of student outreach/ETP and clinical activities
- Monitor and ensure correct utilization of oral hygiene equipment by all students and staff.
- Participate in student outreach activities and service learning projects.
- Conduct research that will contribute to the Oral Health Sciences body of knowledge.
- Participate and facilitate in continuous professional development (CPD) as required by HPCSA
- Ensure client’s rights and patients’ rights as per National Patients’ Rights Charter and Batho Pele Principles
