**Main purpose of the job**:

- To provide best-practice patient care and assessments to patients participating in clinical studies

**Key performance areas**:

- Recruitment and screening_
- Screen patient files and identify potential patients for clinical trials
- Enrol participants by educating them about the study and obtain informed consent according to SOPs
- Complete relevant study documentation/questionnaires and checklists
- Clinical assessments_
- Perform vital signs
- Draw the necessary Blood and Rectal swabs from patients and send samples or specimens to the laboratory in accordance with the study SOPs
- Report any abnormality to the Study Coordinator
- Prepare sample packs on a daily basis and ensure that the correct packs are used to collect the specimens
- Administration_
- Collect required data from participant medical records
- Record and maintain recruitment plans, including screening and enrolment logs on a daily basis
- Complete and file all relevant documentation (CRFs, source documents, etc.) in patient files
- Report on stats of participants recruited on a daily basis in the study handover book
- Shift handovers must be done in conjunction with the receiving shift leader and completed in the handover book before the start of each new shift
- Attend to data queries and resolve them accordingly
- Customer Service_
- Ensure all customer interaction (Both internal and external customers) is of the highest professional level
- Build and maintain authentic relationships with all stakeholders ensuring that all interactions are professional
- Effective self-management and performance ownership_
- Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrates effective self-management
- Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained
- Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback
- Take ownership of driving your own career development by attending training and development sessions and relevant meetings

**Required minimum education and training**:

- **Enrolled Nurse Certificate**

**Required minimum work experience**:

- **Minimum 1 year of Nursing experience in Clinical Trials**

**Professional body registration**:

- South African Nursing Council

**Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities**:

- Certification in good clinical practice
- Experience working in a research and adult patient environment
- Ordered and systematic with strict compliance to protocols
- Tactful, respectful, and maintain confidentiality
- Good administrative skills together with working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Pro-active and adaptable
- Able to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines
- Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Working overtime may be required from time to time
- To assist with screening and enrolment of participants
- To collect samples from participants (blood and rectal swabs)
- Work will mainly take place within the surgical, medical, and ICU wards of the hospitals
- May be required to work all hospital sites
