Semi Skilled Boilermaker

**Position Purpose / Objective**

The Semi-Skilled Boilermaker performs tasks similar to that of a Red Seal Boilermaker with the exception that more complex fabrication and calculations are assigned to Qualified Boilermakers.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Evaluating all engineering drawings and ensuring implementation according to fabrication specifications.
- Performing all fabrications and supporting tasks to the required fabrication tolerances.
- Cutting, bending, and shaping material as per the product requirements.
- Locating and marking bending and cutting lines onto the work piece.
- Marking off and drilling.
- Setting up and operating fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, and drill presses.
- Preparing material for welding by means of grinding, cutting, and assembling.
- Distinguishing between the various types of material in fabrication in preparation for the job.
- Fabricating and tack welding components in preparation for welding.
- Evaluating fabrication and adding stiffness for welding.
- Performing work with the help of various hand and power tools.
- Removing of tack marks from components.
- Using the grinder to remove slack and bevels from the welded work piece.
- Completion and signing of the inspection report.
- Ensuring that the work piece is welded strong enough prior to lifting it.
- Using cutting torches and quick cutters correctly and in a safe manner.
- Leveling jig tables and work pieces.
- Evaluating finished products and perform quality checks on products.
- Verifying the conformance of the work piece to specifications, using a range of measuring instruments.
- Reporting any variances or defects by means of the quality management systems.
- Performing modification and repair work if required.
- Inspecting cutting torches, gauges, fittings, and hoses for leaks.

- Ensuring that the required Housekeeping and Health and Safety requirements are met.
- Ensure adherence to 5S standards whilst looking and communicating opportunities for improvement.
- Always working towards achieving high levels of efficiencies and reporting significant variances.
- Reporting all unsafe acts and unsafe conditions including near misses as and when they happen.
- Ensuring Compliance to QMS standards.

**Minimum Requirements Qualifications**:
Completed Grade 12.

An N4 qualification would be highly advantageous.

**Experience**:
At least three years’ experience in similar capacity in a medium to heavy fabrication environment.

Character:
Attention to details and accuracy in task execution.

Computer Proficiency

None required.

**Other**:
Proven track record in CO₂, Stick Welding and a Plasma Torch.

Advanced mechanical aptitude.

The ability to read and interpret drawings.

The ability to use a variety of measuring instruments

Attention to detail and accuracy in task execution.

Knowledge of dumpie levels.
