LECTURER: PORCINE HEALTH AND PRODUCTION

The Department seeks an experienced veterinarian to join our dynamic team tasked with enhancing porcine health management. This person will focus on the teaching, providing services and research in porcine health and production.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaching and practical training of undergraduate and postgraduate veterinary and veterinary nursing students (**including special emphasis** **on porcine health and production**);
- Postgraduate training and supervision where appropriate;
- Research and publication in scientific journals;
- Networking with relevant industry stakeholders;
- Community engagement - participation and supporting student activities;
- Administrative and other duties as delegated by the Head of Department; and
- Academic self-development.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Lecturer:
- A BVSc or BVMCh degree or equivalent professional veterinary qualification;
- Must be registered or willing to register in 2024 for Masters programme - MSc in veterinary science (relevant production animal focus) or MMedVet degree in Porcine health and production, and be able to graduate in reasonable time; and
- Registration with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) as a Veterinarian.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
- Proven knowledge and competence in veterinary clinical work with an emphasis on porcine health and production aspects;
- Research interest appropriate to the position;
- Good language and communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills; and
- Generic teaching competence including proficiency with presentation, word-processing and spreadsheet software.
The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
