PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Ensure that there’s high quality, consistent and timely representative sampling of customer material, as well as internal material handled within the Melthouse Department.

SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDED BUT NOT LIMITED TO
- Daily preparation of moulds for pouring and tipping.
- Assists with melting sludge deposits under the supervision of the Senior Operator.
- Charging, sampling and pouring of bullion deposits under the supervision of a Senior Operator.
- Physically weighing incoming material accurately (ensure scales do not drift) under the supervision of a Senior Operator.
- Checking, recording and reporting any mass discrepancies on material.
- Melting material in induction furnaces according to standard operating procedure (using suitable capacity furnace based on deposit size).
- Ensure molten metal is poured into moulds without spillages.
- Effective cleaning of slag from ingots to accurately account for metal as part of weight after melt process.
- Complies with and ensures that all health and safety rules are met and acts pro-actively by addressing any safety concerns which may be harmful to self or other employees.
- The incumbent will be required adhere to safety standards, work shifts and lift heavy gold bars.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- A completed Matric qualification.
- Must have worked in a similar environment for at least 1 year.

SKILLS/ COMPETENCIES
- Computer proficiency - MS Office package.
- Interpersonal skills.
- The ability to comprehend instructions pertaining to duties, including those which are in writing.
