Crop Worker

Do you have green fingers, excellent administrative skills and do you want to contribute to the Enza Zaden vision to grant worldwide access to healthy vegetables? As a Crop Worker you are part of the breeding facilities team in Stellenbosch and responsible for the care and treatment of crops and trials. Your job is diverse as you are working in the greenhouse and from your desk. You have a thorough knowledge of processes in plant and greenhouse. You will take care for the sowing, emasculation, selection, seed extraction and harvesting. On the admin part you will process data of pre-breeding projects and data of trials in Excel, Phenome and UTM. Lettuce and tomatoes pre-breeding projects are part of the Life Cycle Acceleration (LCA) program. As the greenhouse is going to extend, you will work within new facilities in a high tech, high tempo, agricultural environment. You work close together with the Team Lead R&D Operations.

You are passionate about plants, accurate and thorough, and have a fine eye for detail. You have excellent planning skills and can keep to set timelines. You are flexible in switching between different responsibilities.

You enjoy working in an environment with high quality standards, are a real team player, deadline driven, and are able to work independently with the supervision of a scientist. Experience in an R&D environment is a plus.

In short, you:

- have a relevant degree or National diploma in biology or agriculture;
- have 3-5 years relevant work experience and green fingers;
- work accurate and have excellent planning abilities;
- have experience in Excel;
- have a hands-on approach;
- have good communication skills in the English language;
- have a valid driver’s license and own transport.
