**Staff work a hybrid schedule with 2 days/week in the office**
The Director, Southern Africa Operations Centre, will be responsible for ensuring timely, accurate, and efficient financial operations for IFAW’s Southern Africa region. This senior position oversees accounting, reporting and financial management, Enterprise Risk Management support, and treasury support to several entities and offices located in Southern Africa. The Director works in close coordination with the IFAW Controller, Financial Systems and Budget manager, Treasurer and other IOC Finance staff.
This position takes a lead role in understanding IFAW business practices, identifying and developing financial process improvement opportunities, leading training and education of internal stakeholders, and providing solutions-based support to financial and non-financial staff. This role directly provides operational support to IFAW’s Southern Africa programmatic region and leads the South Africa Office.
**Role and Responsibilities**
Accounting, Reporting and Financial Management
- Drive cross-functional coordination to ensure adherence to IFAW’s policies, procedures and compliance systems. Develop and deliver training and education of IFAW’s financial policies and procedures;
- Monitor regulatory environment pertaining to banking, tax and charity laws;
- Support IFAW’s monthly budget analysis, reporting and reforecasting process;
- Prepare and/or review monthly reconciliations of entity balance sheet accounts;
- Support financial statement and compliance audits;
- Executes other duties as may occasionally be required;
- Execute transactions and/or reviews and approvals of payment and financial transactions for the region.
- Overseeing and managing IFAWs procurement policy and procedures

Restricted Grant management
- Lead budget development of regional restricted funding proposals;
- Provide financial management oversight/support for projects funded with restricted funds;
- Partner with relevant program and legal team leads to support IFAW’s grant management processes in the region;
- Lead on the financial tracking/monitoring of restricted grants (burn rate monitoring) and provide monthly tracking reports and detailed quarterly tracking evaluations;
Ensure that financial systems, processes, procedures and policies are aligned to supporting efficient, effective and ethical program outcomes.
Financial systems, Treasury and Banking
- Act as primary point of contact for supporting regional ERP (enterprise resources planning) system needs and requirements;
- Identify and support development of financial reporting based upon stakeholder needs
- Support management of cash flow requirements and monitor banking on the global treasury platform;
- Support and/or advise on regional currency and banking practices;
- Administer and train stakeholders on IFAW’s Financial Transaction Compliance Program.

Office Operations
- Supports IFAW’s stated Human Resources objectives, practices, initiatives and local best practices to advance an engaged workplace culture.
- Maintains working knowledge of jurisdictional employment standards, regulations and trends. Keeps Human Resources apprised of these practices in a timely, responsive and solution-focused manner.
- Supervises, mentors and guides regional staff in finance and administration matters.
- Support sound and efficient financial and administrative operations, reporting, and compliance;
- Works with staff to ensure that operations of the offices in the region are aligned to corporate policies and procedures, including but not limited to procurement, timekeeping, travel safety, insurance coverages, asset management, contracting, granting and leasing.
- Identify and suggest process/system improvement opportunities to Controller, Financial Systems and Budget Manager, Treasurer, and other relevant staff.

**Qualifications and Education Requirements**
- College or University Degree concentrated in accounting/finance preferred;
- Strong understanding of financial management and reporting required with 5+ years’ work experience;
- Previous supervisory/managerial experience required;
- Experience in managing of restricted and institutional funding strongly preferred;
- Proactive approach to identifying challenges and finding solutions essential;
- Superior organizational and financial management skills including ability to work independently and problem solve;
- Pragmatic, self-motivated, composed under pressure, with professional acumen, good judgment, and a highly developed sense of responsibility.
- Ability to communicate effectively with senior level management, both internal and external, and to collaborate professionally with co-workers as well as with colleagues from diverse social and cultural backgrounds.
- Ability and willingness to work occasional overtime and travel internationally.

Pay: R790,000.00 - R990,000.00 per year
