Applications are invited for the above-indicated vacancy within Newzroom Afrika. The incumbent will report to the sports editor.
Job purpose
The sports reporter/producer is a key member of the Sports Desk, who is responsible for ensuring that the sports news gathering process is conducted in a timely, accurate and engaging manner. Under the leadership of the Sports Editor, you will shape and create sports stories that set Newzroom Afrika apart from other broadcasters in South Africa and beyond.

**Key responsibilities**:
Produce sport bulletins under pressure
Write scripts for sport stories
Write catchy and relevant headlines for sport stories in sport bulletin.
Insert supers and straps for different sport stories and sport scripts.
Organise relevant guests to discuss different topics related to sport.
Conceptualise story ideas for relevant sport related content on a daily basis.
Participate in daily and forward planning meetings.
Find different angles to sport stories.
Conceptualise, film, script and voice packages for television with a focus on sport.
Do live and pre recorded reporting when required.
Keep up-to-date with sports news.
Ability to meet multiple objectives and tight deadlines in an environment with little supervision
Qualification, skills and competencies
Relevant journalism qualification.
A minimum of three years of journalism covering sports.
Ability to report and write on a variety of different sport codes
Good grasp of English and other South African languages.
Strong contacts base in the sports fraternity.
Good knowledge of sport and latest developments in the space.
Excellent verbal and written/typed communication skills.
Excellent eye for detail and sustained concentration.
Good Interpersonal skills.
Team player.
Be able to work weekends and irregular hours.
Punctuality and diligence.
Capacity to work well under high pressure.
Capacity to solve or accurately describe problems.
Willingness to learn and stay up to date.
