**Design Technician**

**Job Summary**:
As a **Design technician specializing in Canvas and Accessories**, you will be responsible for conceptualizing and designing a range of products, including bags, backpacks, and other accessories made primarily from canvas and other durable materials. You will work closely with our product development and production teams to ensure that your designs are not only stylish but also practical and manufacturable.

**Reporting**:
The successful incumbent will be reporting directly to the COO in the above-mentioned capacity.

**Duties/Responsibilities**:
The duties and responsibilities include the following and will be amended from time to time due to operational requirements.

**Duties and Responsibilities but not limited to**:

- **Design Development**: Create innovative and trend-setting designs for canvas-based products and accessories, ensuring they align with the brand’s aesthetic and customer needs.
- **Material Selection**: Select appropriate canvas, têxtiles, and hardware, considering factors like durability, cost, and sustainability.
- **Prototype Creation**: Develop prototypes of new designs, working with pattern makers and sample makers to refine details.
- **Technical Specifications**: Prepare detailed technical drawings, specifications, and production instructions for manufacturing.
- **Trend Analysis**: Stay updated on current trends in fashion and accessories, incorporating them into new designs while maintaining the brand's unique style.
- **Collaboration**: Work closely with production teams to ensure designs can be efficiently manufactured, meeting quality and cost standards.
- **Quality Assurance**: Ensure that the final products reflect the design specifications and meet quality expectations.
- **Sustainability**: Integrate sustainable practices and materials into the design process wherever possible.
- **Market Research**: Conduct market research to understand consumer preferences and emerging trends in the canvas and accessories segment.
- Liaise with other designers and engineers to understand design requirements and provide technical advice
- Collaborate with the sample maker, to ensure that the design is technically feasible and meets production specifications
- Familiarity with CNC cutting machine

**Experience and Qualifications**:
**- ** Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Fashion Design, Industrial design or a related field
- Proficient in design software such as Solidworks and Corel Draw
- At least 1-3 years experience in designing products such as bags and accessories

**Skills and Abilities**:

- Portfolio showcasing a range of design projects, prototypes, and finished products, that demonstrate strong visual design skills, user-centered design principles, and problem-solving abilities
- Strong communication, collaboration, and presentation skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate design concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Continuous learning mindset and willingness to stay updated on emerging design trends, tools, and technologies and the ability to think beyond the box
- Knowledge of têxtiles, and sewing techniques is advantageous but not essential
- Highly organised, independent, and self-driven skills
