Specialist: Marketing and Communication

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will be responsible to:

- Strategically and operationally manage the Directorate’s marketing and communication portfolio, and related projects;
- Manage and increase awareness of the brand identity of fully online programmes at the University;
- Generate demand for fully online programmes from ideation to execution by developing implementation plans indicating strategies, tactics, channels and user journeys;
- Grow the University’s market share, nationally, in the rest of Africa, and internationally
- Manage campaigns, media releases, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), events, lead generation and management, and website updates;
- Produce engaging content for inclusion in digital and other publications and reports, for example, annual reports, in-house publications, website stories, press releases, testimonials, monthly newsletters, social media content, and v/blogs;
- Build strong and healthy relationships with internal and external stakeholders; and
- Compile annual marketing and communication budgets and reports, and manage the marketing and communication expenses.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, or related discipline;
- Four years’ experience in high level communications, digital marketing, public
- and media relations, and publications;
- Experience in the project management of a marketing agenda; and
- Financial management and budgeting experience.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
KNOWLEDGE
- Marketing trends (including digital and social media marketing;
- Knowledge of the higher education landscape;
- Public relations, communication and liaison;
- Press releases and liaison with the media;
- Journalism;
- Digital and printed publishing;
- Event Management;
- Website management; and
- Project management.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
- Marketing tools including social media (e.g. Hootsuite, Buffer);
- Productivity tools (e.g. project management Trello, Asana, Calendly);
- SEO tools (e.g., search engine optimisation, key words, Google Ads Editor) ;
- Imaging, video and design tools (e.g., camera and video/sound recording equipment, Canva, Photoshop);
- Web design & website analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics);
- Proficiency in processing data;
- Event planning skills;
- Computer literacy;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; and
- Organisational & planning skills.

The total remuneration package for this position will be as determined by UP remuneration policy guidelines. (These amounts include the University’s contributions to standard UP benefits, namely provident fund, group life and funeral cover, but exclude contributions to medical aid, as the latter varies per employee.) UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
