TASK is a South African headquartered, multinational clinical research institute that conducts clinical trials to determine the treatment effects of novel medicinal products or devices in healthcare and offers services in conducting complex clinical trials in a wide variety of therapeutic areas.

**Overall Purpose of the Position**:
A highly skilled and experienced professional, the Financial Controller oversees and manages the financial operations of the company. The role requires a deep understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance in the context of clinical trials. The Financial Controller ensures that financial data is accurate, timely, and compliant with industry regulations, while supporting the company’s operational goals and growth.

**Key Performance Areas (KPAs) & Responsibilities include (not limited to)**:
**1. Financial Reporting & Analysis**:

- Responsible for preparation and completion of monthly Management Accounts for two entities
- Overseeing the preparation and reviewing of financial reports related to grants, ensuring accuracy and compliance with sponsor requirements
- Overseeing the monitoring and reconciliation of grant accounts, resolving discrepancies as needed
- Overseeing the preparation of schedules and collection of supporting documents for grant audits and reviews, liaising with the sponsor auditors as required

**2. Budget and Forecasting**:

- Overseeing the development and preparation of detailed budgets for clinical research studies
- Working with the Contracts Manager and Finance team to ensure budgets are comprehensive and accurate
- Responsible for monitoring budget adherence throughout the lifecycle of the clinical trials, identifying and addressing variances and communicating such to all stakeholders
- Monitoring and managing cash flow to ensure the company maintains sufficient liquidity for trial operations and ongoing business needs

**3. Clinical Trial Cost Management**:

- Ensuring appropriate allocation and monitoring of funds to support ongoing trials/grants
- Reviewing and approving invoices from clinical research organisations, vendors, and service providers, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation that will adhere to grant regulations and requirements

**4. Compliance & Internal Controls**:

- Ensuring the company adheres to financial regulations and best practices for clinical trial financing and other regulatory requirements
- Establishing and maintaining strong internal controls and procedures for managing financial transactions, approvals, and documentation
- Managing audits and coordinating with external auditors to ensure timely and accurate completion of audits

**5. Administrative Functions**:

- Assisting with processing of participant reimbursements
- Maintaining accurate and organized records of budgets, contracts, and regulatory submissions
- Assisting in generating regular reports on budget status, contract progress, and regulatory compliance for management review

**6. Team Leadership & Collaboration**:

- Leading and managing a team of finance professionals, ensuring high levels of accuracy and productivity
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including clinical operations, legal, and project management, to align financial strategies with business goals
- Providing financial insights and advice to support business decisions related to clinical trials, staffing, and long-term growth

**Ideal Requirements**
- Bachelor’s degree in financial accounting and/or similar qualification
- 5 - 7 years of experience in financial management
- Experience in grant accounting, contract management, or a related field (advantageous)
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting
- Demonstrated experience with budgeting and financial analysis
- Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
