Our client a leading freight forwarding company based in Durban harbor, specialising in facilitating imports into South Africa is currently recruiting for a Customs Manager, to start soonest**Position Overview**:

- You will be responsible for overseeing all customs clearance activities related to imports into South Africa
- Critical role in ensuring compliance with South African customs regulations, optimizing clearance processes, and providing exceptional service to our clients.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Develop and implement customs clearance strategies to ensure efficient and compliant import processes for our clients.
- Manage a team of customs clearance specialists, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high-quality service delivery.
- Liaise with customs authorities, government agencies, and other relevant stakeholders to stay updated on changes to customs regulations, tariff schedules, and import/export procedures.
- Oversee the classification, valuation, and documentation of imported goods, ensuring accuracy and compliance with South African customs requirements.
- Handle customs-related inquiries, issues, and disputes, and work proactively to resolve them promptly.
- Conduct regular audits and assessments of customs clearance processes to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams, including operations, sales, and customer service, to ensure smooth coordination of import activities.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and technological advancements in customs clearance and logistics management.

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional certification in customs or trade compliance preferred.
- 10 years of experience in customs clearance, freight forwarding, or related field, with 5 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
- In-depth knowledge of South African customs regulations, import procedures, and tariff classification systems.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with a proven track record of leading teams to achieve operational excellence.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients, customs authorities, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
