We are on the hunt for an AML Analyst to join PayFast’s Regulatory Compliance Team.
**About the team**
Our AML team is responsible for preventing and detecting financial transactions associated with money laundering and illicit activities. We conduct risk assessments, perform due diligence checks on customers and merchants, monitor transactions for suspicious activity, and file suspicious activity reports with the regulatory authorities (FIC). We also develop and enforce compliance policies, provide training to our employees, and collaborate with law enforcement and regulatory bodies to combat financial crime.

**What you'll be doing**
- Undertake a wide range of data gathering and identify any AML related risks, deviations or deficiencies in the KYC or customer information/ suspicious transactions and highlight to senior management for further investigations.
- Support business units on implementation of AML / KYC requirements and support with AML risk assessments when required.
- Prepare a Merchant AML review report mentioning unusual client activities. Ensure that all the key concerns on their transaction activity or independent review reports are captured along with recommendation.
- Assist the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) in the suspicious transaction reporting process and ensure all key concerns are adequately mentioned in our reporting.
- Conduct initial analysis of customer transactions using internal/external research tools in order to assess and determine if the transactions seem plausible or if there is reasonable suspicion that the transaction involves money laundering.
- Identification of suspicious or unusual transactions, non-compliant activity, or increased compliance risk.
- Accurately document rationale for case closure or escalation as appropriate.
- Determine if additional enquiries are required and escalate as appropriate for non/low quality responses.
- Preparation of customer transaction analysis summaries on request.
- Monitor progress of financial crime mandated customer exits and verify whether the internal procedures are being followed.
- Reviewing of Sanction related alerts arising from monitoring system /reports.
- Support with the development of a STR/SAR monitoring and reporting capability.
- The role holder shall support the AVP Compliance with various compliance tasks and projects required across the business as and when required.
**What you'll need**
- Bachelor’s degree or related relevant experience.
- Strong analytical skills required to organize and analyse multiple, complex data sets as well as strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Computer literacy essential (Word, Excel).
- Strong database skills, including working with advanced data sets, pivot tables, advanced database and statistical functions and methods.
- Knowledge of Ecommerce industry as well as various payment methods will be advantageous.
- General understanding of AML issues and AML suspicious activity, suspicious transaction monitoring systems, data mining/analytical tools, and KYC automated solutions will be helpful.
- Strong ability to quickly grasp and understand business unit specific AML risks, develop comprehensive user requirements, and provide recommendations for appropriate automated solutions to mitigate those risks.
