A **specialist** and multifaceted business unit within a leading **investment firm** is seeking a technically astute and experienced professional to manage the day-to-day operational requirements of the unit, execute strategic business plans, provide guidance to a broad range of stakeholders, as well as identify and solve technical and operational problems.

The business of this highly complex team encompasses elements of **Investment Management, Investment Banking, Treasury, Risk Management** and **ALM**.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Operations Management**: Execution of Ops strategies & business plans; Input into Ops business planning.
- **People Management**: Lead & Direct Ops team of 4 people including identifying development needs and providing hands-on support, mentoring and training; Enforcing controls and controls environment; Identifying potential problems and finding solutions; Mitigating risk by ensuring continuity and succession planning.
- **Management Information Management**: Working with all areas of Ops to obtain management information and creating the capability to understand/interpret the data to help drive better business decision making; Establishing and maintaining appropriate systems for measuring operational controls to ensure the completeness and accuracy of management information; Taking responsibility for the development and maintenance of the data governance and control framework.
- **Change Management and Sustainability**: Responsible for implementing ongoing improvements, changes, new initiatives and projects; Actively assessing/questioning the relevance of current processes and driving improvements; Project managing new projects; Complex client onboarding; Researching emerging industry trends and global best practice and Impact of key regulatory changes.
- **Stakeholder Management**: Internal and external networking with a variety of partners and stakeholders including supervising the outsourced investment administration function & monitoring of SLA delivery, as well as cultivating strong working relationships with intermediaries, brokers, custodians and investment banks.

**Requirements**:

- CA(SA) / CFA / MBA / CIMA / Engineer with 8-10 years relevant experience within the operations function of a complex financial institution, including 5 years’ experience in managing people.
- A deep understanding of financial markets and participants.
- Direct exposure to operational processes spanning local and global markets across asset classes and transactions including derivatives and ideally complex structured products.
- Knowledge of the South African financial markets and asset management businesses including legal, compliance, settlement and tax would be a plus.
