**Key responsibilities include the following**:

- Lab support for student practical teaching sessions and to researchers (including sample preparation/testing, cell culture assays, routine maintenance and calibration of lab equipment).
- Ensure the functioning (stock, viability and aseptic handling) in particular of all sterile labs (pharmaceutical microbiology, cell lab, and pharmaceutical product testing and release lab) as well as liaising with superiors in implementing schedules for the service/maintenance/troubleshooting of all equipment within the labs.
- Routinely update of all lab SOPs in line with internal protocols and external regulations.
- Ensure correct QA/QC procedures are followed, calculations and acceptability
- Ensure water points are sampled and tested timeously
- Ensure lab samples tested using current pharmacopoeias/SOPs for ‘wet’ chemistry and instrumental techniques (HPLC, IR, UV-Vis etc), as appropriate
- Initiate sample out-of-specification reports, failing results and equipment calibration/validation before use.
- Ensure samples after analysis are disposed of according to the OHS&E guidelines.
- Performs duties deemed necessary by Superior and ensure compliance to limits on analytical reports

**Requirements**:

- BSc (Honours) in the pharmaceutical sciences/Chemistry/Microbiology.
- Must have demonstrable competency in the pharmaceutical research sterile lab environment handling specialized cell lines, microbes, chemicals and equipment.
- A minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in a pharmaceutical and/or microbiology lab,
- Knowledge of good laboratory practice (GLP).

-Good documentation practices and strong analytical and problem-solving ability

**Preferences**:

- A Masters in the pharmaceutical sciences/Chemistry/Microbiology with research publications
- Experience within a validated clean lab environment
- HPLC experience in Pharmaceuticals Quality Control Laboratory will be an advantage
- Previous experience in cell culturing and sterile lab SOPs
