**Summary of position**:
The Enrolled (Staff) Nurse will be responsible for the provision of nursing treatment and care of persons in the assigned clinic/site, the management of nursing care of individuals, groups and communities, the provision of emergency care where required, ensuring the safe implementation of nursing care and the provision of nursing care delegated to him or her. He/She will carry out patient triage, provide holistic nursing care to patients within the clinic and provide general health education to patient groups. The Enrolled Nurse will support the HIV/AIDS Preventions and Medical teams with HIV rapid testing, blood and other specimen collection for routine and specified laboratory investigations, as well as support the full cascade of TB case identification and management. The Enrolled Nurse will support clinicians with interpreting laboratory results and channel patients to the respective care delivery points according to the need established

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**
- Include but are not limited to the following:_

**General staff nurse duties**
- Carry out general nursing care within a PHC setting to fulfill the health needs of clients within the chronic care stream (mainly people living with HIV and TB), but may be assigned to any care stream within a PHC clinic.
- Provide nursing assistance to medical, supplementary health and other nursing professionals
- Develop an integrated general nursing care plan for the prevention of illness, promotion of activities of daily living, self-care, treatment and the rehabilitation of clients, also taking cognizance of natural biological and psychosocial sciences
- Evaluate clients’ progress towards expected outcomes and revise nursing care plans in accordance with the evaluation data
- Execution of treatment or administration of medication prescribed by an authorized registered person
- Ensure the referral of a client timeously and appropriately to other members of the multidisciplinary team

**Specific clinical duties**
- Screen, assess and triage patients accordingly
- Support the full cascade of TB screening, case identification, investigation and treatment
- General nursing care of a patient, including the monitoring of vital signs and the observation of reactions to ART and other related medication and treatment.
- Follow up patients who have tested positive for HIV and/or TB, and ensure enrolment into care and treatment programmes or linked to care and treatment programmes.
- Assist professional nurses with general nursing duties, including the maintenance of a supply of oxygen, fluid balance and other supplemental therapy for patients, where necessary

**Procedures, Phlebotomy, Investigations**
- Review patients due for routine bloods and schedule patients for repeat CD4 count and VL testing.
- Preparation for and assistance with diagnostic and therapeutic activities by a registered person.
- Blood sample collection for laboratory investigations from patients testing HIV positive at the HCT clinic onsite, and from any patient as ordered by the relevant clinician.
- Ensure availability of laboratory consumables by submitting stock orders on time and management of supplies.
- Prepare weekly laboratory statistics.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety and infection control standards.
- Ensure proper storage and timeous dispatch of specimens.Identify and report discrepancies between forwarded specimen and received results
- Reviewing Results for Action and initiating appropriate actions for abnormal results timeously
- Providing relevant laboratory progress reports

**Advocacy, communication and health education**
- Advocate for the rights of clients and promote and empower them through health counselling and education to participate in health care to achieve self-reliance.
- The prevention of disease and the promotion of healthy lifestyle by means of health education.
- The promotion and maintenance of an environment in which the physical and mental health of a patient are promoted.
- Communicate with colleagues and other relevant stakeholders, with the aim of rendering quality, integrated and holistic patient care, and to support a multi-disciplinary approach.

- Evidence-based nursing practice through the integration of current research findings in the workplace.
- Maintain adequate knowledge and skills for safe nursing practice, including identifying developmental needs of self and co-workers for inclusion into in-service and annual training plans.
