Job Summary: As a Baker on a cruise ship, you will be responsible for preparing a wide variety of baked goods and pastries for guests and crew members. You will work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, ensuring that all baked goods are of high quality and meet the standards set by the cruise line. Your role will involve creating delicious desserts, bread, and other baked items that will enhance the dining experience for passengers on board.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Baking Preparation: Prepare and measure ingredients accurately according to recipes, ensuring consistency in taste, texture, and appearance. This includes mixing, proofing, shaping, and baking various types of bread, pastries, cakes, cookies, and desserts.

Menu Planning: Collaborate with the head chef or pastry chef to develop menus, create new recipes, and introduce innovative baked goods to the cruise ship's dining offerings. Take into consideration dietary restrictions and guest preferences.

Pastry Production: Execute the daily production of pastries, ensuring timely delivery to various dining outlets on the ship. This includes coordinating with other kitchen staff to meet service requirements.

Quality Control: Maintain high standards of food quality, taste, and presentation. Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations. Properly store and rotate ingredients to minimize waste and maintain freshness.

Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels of baking supplies and ingredients, placing orders as necessary to ensure sufficient stock. Coordinate with the provision master or designated personnel for timely delivery of required items.

Teamwork and Collaboration: Work closely with the culinary team to coordinate timing and production schedules. Assist other kitchen staff during peak periods or special events as needed. Foster a positive and productive work environment.

Cleanliness and Safety: Adhere to strict hygiene and safety standards while working in the galley. Follow proper procedures for the use and maintenance of kitchen equipment, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and colleagues.

Guest Interaction: Interact with guests in a friendly and professional manner, responding to their inquiries and dietary requests. Provide a memorable dining experience by presenting well-crafted and visually appealing baked goods.

Qualifications:

- Prior experience as a baker in a professional kitchen, preferably in a hotel, resort, or cruise ship setting.
- Proficiency in various baking techniques and a strong knowledge of pastry arts.
- Familiarity with different types of baking equipment and tools.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Flexibility in working hours and ability to adapt to changing schedules.
- Culinary or baking certification or diploma is a plus.
