**Engineering Geologist**

**Description**:
Offering to work on a variety of projects (mainly in Southern Africa) and to ensure a stimulating work environment in which ongoing innovation and technological development are essential requirements to meet the various Clients demands and best practice geotechnical standards, especially in the ever-changing conditions in the field of Mineral Residue Facilities/Tailings which encompasses a large portion of SRKs current projects. Remote work and secondment to current projects (South Africa and abroad) may also be required. Other mining and large infrastructure projects also form part of our market offering.

**Qualifications, Experience and Skills**:

- A BSc (Hons) Engineering Geology degree; a masters degree would be an advantage; prior knowledge and experience with conducting small to large scale geotechnical investigations including analysis and interpretive reporting.
- A good understanding of Engineering Geology and preferably geotechnical engineering.
- A minimum of 5-8 years experience with, at least 3 years in the consulting field.
- An active Professional Natural Scientist registration with SACNASP.
- A moderate to high proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- A valid (and unendorsed) drivers license with own reliable transport.
- A valid passport and be willing to travel to remote project sites for work, international travel may form part of the role.
- Other skills that would be an advantage:_
- Construction supervision experience will be an advantage.
- Experience in numerical modelling software for geotechnical (e.g., Slide, Dips, Bentley software including GINT, Leapfrog) and/or tailing engineering related projects would be an advantage (seepage, seismic hazard assessment, dam breach analysis (HEC RAS).
- Any additional software skills.

**Roles and responsibilities**:
***
- Plan and conduct geotechnical site investigations and carry out engineering geology fieldwork in South Africa and internationally.
- Schedule the required laboratory testing, analyse and interpret engineering geological data for input in design for mining and infrastructure projects.
- Compile technical engineering geological reports and/or engineering geological input for geotechnical reports and engineering designs of specialist structures.
- Conduct possible water related studies.
- Construction supervision and supervision of contractors drilling and performing in situ testing on various active geotechnical projects and projects where SRK Designs are being implemented (as and when required).
- Assist with training and mentorship of junior staff as required.
- Work independently as well as in multi-disciplinary teams, across group disciplines and SRK branches on a range of projects both nationally and overseas, as and when required.
- Be flexible to work outside of normal working hours when required.
- To assist with tenders, proposals, to market and promote the organization as and when required to procure new projects and ensure client satisfaction.
