Laboratory Technician

Overview

We are looking for a Laboratory Technician to provide a têxtile laboratory service in accordance to SABS and ISO Standards and processes in support of the Company’s product strategy.

**Qualifications**:
**Essential**:

- Grade 12 Certificate / Matric

**Preferred**:

- Diploma in Textile Technology OR
- Manufacturing technology
- Garment construction and engineering
- Textiles (Fibres & Yarns)
- Certificate in Fibres and Fabric
- Relevant SADFA Certificate (dyeing, printing and finishing)
- CSIR - Laboratory Accredited Certificate

**Experience**:

- Minimum 3 years’ laboratory experience with testing according to ISO standards
- Previous experience in product and/or têxtile quality control
- Previous experience in a clothing/homeware manufacturing and/or retail environment
- Exposure to têxtile dyeing, printing and finishing processes
- Exposure to têxtile development

**Skills Required**:

- A technical knowledge of different types of têxtiles
- A working knowledge of testing equipment and testing procedures (incl. fabric analysis, performance & chemical tests)
- Capturing test results and preparing specimens and samples for testing
- An understanding of the product end-uses
- The ability to:

- perform laboratory tests
- accurately capture, interpret and analyse data (i.e. pilling, colour fastness)
- work independently, as well as be a team player
- communicate effectively (both verbal and written)
- follow verbal and written instructions

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Textiles Testing
- To conduct tests and assessments to ensure compliance with predetermined standards (SABS & ISO)
- Textile Reporting
- To maintain accurate and timely record keeping of tests and results
- To ensure that the testing and assessment environment functions effectively in accordance with the predetermined housekeeping and maintenance plan
- To provide general assistance to the Product Technologists with fabric-related projects and all other general technology administration
