**Purpose of the job**
Meets with families of the deceased and execute the funeral as planned to ensure a smooth and incident free experience for the bereaved.
**Minimum Requirements**
Matric
Driver’s license
Basic numeracy and literacy
1-2 years’ experience working in funeral homes, and well versed in protocols and procedures
Customer service experience.
Computer Literacy
Willing to work during the night when required

**Key Performance Areas**:
**Funeral preparation**
Hold a meeting with the Funeral Arranging Officer to ensure that all arrangements have been finalised by the family and that the payment has been received in full.
Check the daily schedule on the white board.
Ensure adequate resources for the day.
Hold a meeting with the Funeral Assistants and confirm their duties for the day
Check out the coffin, graveside beverages, flowers,
programmes and graveside equipment
Ensure that the route is planned and communicated to the Funeral Assistants.
Complete the vehicle checklist.
**Oversee the viewing process**
Ensure that viewing times and dates are arranged by the Funeral Arranging Officer
Ensure that the deceased is dressed and coffined as per the file instructions.
Ensure the preparation of the deceased if the family requested to wash the body for religious
purposes.
Ensure that the deceased is dressed and coffined should the family request an overnight stay.
**Final Funeral Preparation**
Brief the Funeral Assistants on the activities of the day.
Ensure that the grave site equipment, flowers, beverages and programmes are packed.
Provide a route plan to the Funeral Assistants and re issue the instructions for the day.
Oversee and ensure the collection of the deceased from the mortuary for transportation to the
chosen viewing site (Home or Church).
Oversee and ensure that the placement of the coffin and programmes in the church.
Usher the family into the church and ensure that the pall bearers are briefed
In the case of a cremation, direct the family to gather at the vehicle to pay their final respects.
**Funeral Execution**
Check that all the equipment is ready and clean.
Direct the pall bearers to place the coffin on the lowering device. Assist the minister and lower
the coffin into the grave
Oversee the covering of the grave by either the family or the grave site attendant.
Take the family home
Ensure that all the equipment is packed and returned to the mortuary.
Complete the vehicle checklist and direct the Funeral Assistants to wash the equipment and
vehicles.
Ensure that all stock is checked back into the storeroom
