Applications Engineer - Boksburg, Gauteng - Job ID 3953

Applications Engineer to provide support to field operations, global product design and quality and be responsible for the designing, and product development of company products and systems.

Valid driver’s license and own reliable transport as travelling will be part of job requirements.

**Position details**:
Type: Permanent

Reports to: Engineering Manager

Main responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Controlling adherence to Schedule.

Controlling adherences to schedule.

Ensuring technical integrity and support of products through all phases.

Control operating budget.

Improve and maintain the technical integrity of existing products, provide feedback and supporting information to Engineering.

Where product enhancement or improvements are identified.

Reporting on activities.

Major challenges and problem solving:
Develop accurate and relevant design concepts in accordance with Design Brief.

Meeting deadlines, cost of projects and product target cost, on third party products.

Understanding and interpretation of test results, and subsequent corrective action.

Correct analysis of field problems.

Implement product qualification process.

Support other departments to achieve product excellence.

Adhere to processes and procedures and implement new processes.

Identifying customer requirements and supporting new products to meet customer specific inputs.

Strategic planning:
Continuous review of product standards to maintain product compliance.

Promote a product design strategy that aligns with the organizations’ competitive advantages.

Functional planning:
Set and review departmental goals.

Annual budget and capex requirements.

Investigations of non-conforming products.

Feasibility studies of concepts for new products.

Set and review milestones for development projects.

Develop programs and schedules for tasks.

Set design guidelines.

Develop departmental procedures.

Planning continuous improvement programs (formal and informal design reviews) for cost reduction and performance improvement.

Encourage innovation in design.

Organizing:
Allocation of staff to relevant projects.

Prototype building, testing and evaluation.

Initiate meetings with relevant departments.

Design verification and validation.

Samples for certification/qualification.

Lab tests for fault evaluation.

Problem solving and brain-storming sessions.

Encourage teamwork by boosting the morale of subordinates, as well as interaction with other departments. (Production and support especially).

Training and empowerment of subordinates.

Directing and supervising:
Progress of design and development projects.

Facilitate team discussion on projects.

Promote participation and involvement of designers in each other’s projects.

Continuous training and coaching of subordinates related to testing, problem solving and design alternatives.

Close involvement with other departments to gain basic knowledge on their operations.

Build constructive relationship with staff.

Ensure understanding and acceptance of ideas and plans.
