Guide / Mechanic

Magspear (Pty) Ltd is a small multi-cultural company with a motorcycle tours and rentals division. Tours are proposed in South Africa and beyond. The role for which we're hiring is: "Guide / Mechanic".
We're looking for an individual who's energetic, not afraid of being out of his/her comfort's zone, willing to learn, street smart and who can grow with our business to take up a position as tour guide and mechanic.
The opportunities to evolve and grow within this project are real for the positive minded and motivated individual.
**Responsibilities**:
- Work on our motorcycles in order to keep them in pristine shape. Keep strict maintenance logs.
- Assist with workshop organisation and selection of extra tools needed. Assist with stock taking/keeping.
- Give insights & contribute to route planning for our tours. This is optional but would be appreciated.
- Get involved with sales/marketing. This is optional but represents a good opportunity not only to learn more about the business but also to earn more for the applicant. This would entail understanding partnership dynamics, internet searches, and initiating & addressing certain leads - corporate (partners mostly) and/or actual end clients.
Salary package:
This business is in essence seasonal but for the right individual and depending on your performance, flexibility and aspirations, we could look at accomodating a yearly role.
- We can offer a fixed portion starting from 4000R/month as your base salary. This might be slightly negotiable depending on your experience, etc.
- Extra / variable salary components include: taking part in actual tours, contributing to sales / marketing efforts. This will be completely dependant on what it is that you can actually contribute to in terms of growing the business.
Contract type:
- For now - it's contract based. A permanent position could be in the cards as our activity grows and it becomes justifiable to translate this role into a full time position.
**Education**:
- No minimum requirement per say. Some measure of formal training and/or degree in mechanics and/or business or tourism could be very relevant.
- Need to be able to communicate well in English. If you have knowledge of French - it could be interesting as well but is not a must.
**Experience**:
- First and foremost - we're looking for a street smart, trustworthy, driven & reliable individual who takes initiatives and who pays attention to details.
- Knowledge of motorcycles and mechanics in general is preferred but more importantly here is the willingness to learn on the job and to be hands on.
- You must love motorcycles, travelling (and be able to actually travel for multiple days and weeks) and roughing it in the Bush.
- You need to be able to communicate well with other team members and our customers.
- If you are licensed to ride a motorcycle - it's a plus. As a minimum though, you should have your car driver's license.
- If you have some business notions - whether from experience or from specific training - this will be helpful in order to ramp up the role within other facets of our activities.
**Location**:
- Northcliff, Gauteng
**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time, Temporary
Contract length: 6 months
**Salary**: From R4,000.00 per month
