**JOB DESCRIPTION: EDUBLOX DURBANVILLE TEACHER - INTERMEDIATE PHASE**

**Context and Description**:
**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- **Teaching and Learning**:_
- Create a safe and nurturing learning environment that stimulates positive learning and actively engages learners in the learning process
- To take on a leadership role in respect of the foundation phase
- Design and deliver learning programmes according to the DCAPS / CAPS curriculum, engaging in class teaching that will foster purposeful progression in learning
- Teach in a dual-language, multigrade context
- Understand, support and effectively teach learners with a range of learning difficulties, differentiating learning to be relevant for each learner’s cognitive, academic and literacy development levels
- Recognise that learning is an active process and to be prepared to use a variety of strategies to meet the outcomes of the curriculum
- Enable learners to succeed and build their self-esteem, confidence and resilience
- Plan, coordinate, control, administer, evaluate and report on learners’ academic progress
- Manage and utilise available Learning Resources and Technology in Teaching
- **Learner Welfare**:_
- Manage and support day-to-day behaviour and emotional development in line with the learner code of conduct and discipline policy, keeping records of incidents, observations and communication with parents
- Assist the School Principal to identify aspects that require special attention and assist in addressing them
- Assist the School Principal in overseeing learner counselling and guidance, discipline, and the general welfare of all learners, including attending meetings with parents and partaking in setting, implementing and monitoring progress on Behaviour Plans
- **Professional**:_
- To control and coordinate stock and equipment, which is used and required
- Read, understand and implement school policies
- Cooperate with colleagues of all grades in order to maintain a good teaching standard and progress among learners and to foster administrative efficiency within the school
- Participate in agreed school/educator appraisal processes in order to regularly review their professional practice with the aim of improving teaching, learning and management
- Contribute to the professional development of colleagues by sharing knowledge, ideas and resources
- Participate in school committees, school based CPD and relevant external seminars and courses in order to contribute to and remain informed of current developments in educational thinking and update one’s professional views/standards
- Meet parents and discuss with them the conduct and progress of their children
- Attend and actively engage in teachers’ meetings every Wednesday afternoon

**ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- The role will include tutoring responsibilities for extracurricular classes:

- 2 afternoons per week
- every 3rd Saturday morning
- 2 days in the final week of the school holidays (Friday afternoon & Saturday morning) - minimum two holidays
- May be required to drive learners to aftercare (school vehicle)

**REQUIREMENTS**:

- **Qualifications**:_
- Qualified Teacher (preferably Intermediate Phase, or significant experience at Intermediate Phase if Foundation / Senior Phase qualified), SACE registered
- Desirable: Remedial / Special Needs qualification
- **Experience**:_
- Minimum 3 years' teaching experience teaching English and/or Maths at Intermediate Phase (Grades 4-7)
- Must have experience teaching children with learning difficulties
- **Personal Skills / Knowledge**:_
- A passion for teaching children who experience learning challenges
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in both English and Afrikaans
- Good knowledge of the CAPS curriculum at Foundation Phase & Grade 4 Level
- Good understanding of learning challenges and adapting teaching practices to address these
- Deep understanding of emotional and behavioural development; positive teaching practices
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office & Internet
- Clean, active drivers license

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: R16,500.00 - R18,000.00 per month

- Bachelors (required)

**Experience**:

- Intermediate English and/or Maths teaching: 1 year (required)

License/Certification:

- Foundation OR Intermediate Phase Teaching Qualification (required)
