SGS South Africa is seeking to fulfil a key role in the SGS Matrolab KZN, Eastern Cape Civil Engineering Laboratories. The role includes but are not limited to assisting the Supervisor/ Laboratory Manager with all tasks, whether it’s on site or in the commercial laboratory. To assist the Supervisor/ Laboratory Manager with all tasks, whether it’s on site or in the commercial laboratory. To clean all equipment on a regular basis. To complete materials testing in one laboratory division, including soils, asphalt, seals, concrete, aggregate with bench calculation as and when required for testing. The Materials Tester will ensure that the laboratory is clean at all times and will carry out all work-related instructions from the technicians/supervisors or authorized personnel.

**Job Description**:

- Materials Tester is responsible for cleaning the company equipment on a regularly basis and that all test equipment is cleaned after completion of any job.
- A Materials Tester is responsible for cleaning up the work area where the job was carried out and will make sure its free off all consumables used to perform the job (masking tape, tins).
- A Materials Tester is responsible to adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
- A Materials Tester is responsible to orally report deviations, irregularities and non-conformances
- A Materials Tester is responsible to perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by the authorized site supervisor/laboratory manager and regional manager.
- Ensure that all procedures are followed at all times and report any possible deviations to the direct line manager as soon as possible.
- Complete timesheets accurately on a daily basis.
- Sampling and preparation experience
- Administration experience will be Advantageous
- Punctuality
- Physically able and willing to safely pick up and move samples as and when required.

**Qualifications**:

- Grade 12, and proven years of laboratory, knowledge, skills and experience sufficient to be recognized as a qualification through - Recognition of Prior Learning.
- Knowledgeable and familiar with the latest Civil Engineering Testing Methods (e.g TMH 1 and SANS)
- Language: Proficiency in English and Afrikaans (Read, write, speak)
