Mechanical Technician

The Mechanical Technician ensures effective engineering support to all factories in order to contribute to the required operating profit of the business unit.
**REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION/TRAINING**
- Grade 12
- Mechanical trade will be an added advantage
- National diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering or 10 years of specific equipment-related experience
**REQUIRED MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE**
- 5 years experience in a solids handling environment
- 5 years experience in industrial manufacturing plants
**KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS**
- Identify and implement best practices within factories to optimise operations
- Plan projects, execute and complete within the specified timeframe
- Cross visits to other factories and improvement suggestions within team, by working in close alignment with team
- Regular factory visits and feedback on deviations found in processes, production and equipment and rectification thereof
- Assist maintenance department with fault finding on equipment during critical or repetitive breakdowns
- Training and interaction with the production team to increase plant throughput
- Report poor maintenance practices and suggest and implement preventative actions
- Standardise equipment across all factories
- Assist maintenance with proper maintenance schedules & implementation (CMMS)
- Support factories with analysis from condition monitoring reports
- Generate reports as and when required such as Root cause analysis, factory energy consumption, Capex, etc.
- Managing project punch lists and hand-over documentation
- Report deviations on safety systems and bypassing of safety systems and rectify
- Identify risks on equipment and mitigate
- Contribute and promote a safe working environment and adherence to safe working practices
- Maintain lost time injury frequency rate (LTIFR) to a minimum
**TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE/ COMPETENCIES**
- Computer literacy (MS Office and others)
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical equipment and components
- In-depth knowledge of maintenance practices in a manufacturing plant
- In-depth knowledge of the safety requirements with regard to projects, plants and equipment
- Knowledge of the production processes in a manufacturing factory
- Integration with maintenance and fault finding on critical or repetitive failures
- Ability to troubleshoot, remain calm and initiate effective solutions in crisis
