Our client is an international mining house who is seeking a Senior Manager - Geotechnical Operations Support, who will provide direct output support to both Site and Regional business units for both Open Pit and Underground in the identification and adoption of relevant discipline strategy, provision of competent technical support to the operations, provision of governance/assurance and representation of the company on all matters relating to the discipline including the interaction and benchmarking with the peers in the industry.

**Responsibilities**:

- Identify ongoing technical improvement opportunities and ensuring adequate technical support to operations to act on these opportunities.
- Provide expert geotechnical input to risk-benefit scenarios in the tactical plans for the assets.
- Provide geotechnical design inputs and reviews for projects as required.
- Contribute discipline specific inputs towards the annual strategy and business planning process, as well as quarterly integrated plans.
- Mentor and develop the operational Geotechnical teams to be competent in managing geotechnical risks in the company
- Participate in coordinating the discipline Communities of Practice and ensuring knowledge transfer across the business units and group.
- Review and provide input into the Ghana and Tanzania Business Unit annual budget as well as provide support (and review as required) to the Ghana and Tanzania operations in regard to financial inputs that are required for the business plan, as well as quarterly integrated plans.
- Compile and issue discipline specific feedback reports highlighting risks, opportunities and progress to the operations managers and business unit management as required.
- Coordinate on-site priorities and initiatives as agreed upon by operations and ensure adequate technical resource deployment to drive these to completion
- Audit on-site compliance to the agreed standards, procedures, processes, and specifications to exercise appropriate control over major hazards (ground control and inundation). Where deviations are encountered develop roadmaps to ensure compliance
- Support the CTO Geotechnical team in rolling out new standards, procedures, processes and specifications to sites.

**Requirements**:Qualification and Skill**_ _**
- A post-graduate degree in mining related geotechnical engineering
- At least 15 years relevant geotechnical engineering experience in the mining industry
- Sound practical understanding of exploration, mine development and primary mining activities within the mining value chain
- Demonstrated strategic and analytic thinking
- Strong track record of practical implementation of geotechnical designs in the resources industry
- Worked in an Africa expatriate role and has demonstrated capability and willingness to explore and embrace different cultures
- Ability to take a one-to-two-year whole-of-business perspective in managing multiple competing priorities and reconciling these with the Company’s strategic priorities
- Intimate understanding and experience in one or more of the fundamental science fields contributing, including relevance with mining method, to the design basis
- Intimate understanding and experience on the field of design specification and its relevance in the mining method.
- Can work with strategic mine planners to develop companywide strategies on projects and operations
- Experience in various mining methods in all components of integrated monitoring techniques and reconciliation resolution
- Fully understand current technologies, and how it may integrate into existing network
- Is an acknowledged leader in the field of monitoring design, data collection, data preparation, trend analysis and reconciliation resolution methods
