**Job Description** PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES**
To outline the responsibilities and authorities of the Wet Chem Technician in relation to post requirements at SGS Durban Laboratory.
**SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Responsibility to log received samples into the SLIMS using work orders from the client.
- Responsibility to print sample labels.
- Responsibilities to ensure samples are sorted correctly before labeling and boxing the samples.
- Responsibility to follow all quality directives of this Department.
- Responsible for operation of laboratory instrumentation
- Responsibility to bring all problems (technical and managerial) to the attention of the Chemist.
- Responsibility to adhere to all quality, health and safety rules and regulations.
- Responsibility to ensure that the housekeeping in the receiving area as well as the micro-balance room is in order.
- Complies and conforms to Laboratory Quality Management System (ISO17025).
- Must be able to help with the preparation of SANAS audits
- Responsibility to record any day-to-day repairs, maintenance, calibration and verification of instruments.
- Responsibility to work in other areas and/or Divisions if asked to do so.
- Participate and form part of Operational Integrity projects and campaigns
- Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
- Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager.
**COMPLIANCE & AUTHORITY**
- Report any faulty and/or nonfunctioning apparatus or equipment to the immediate superior.
- Each staff member has the authority to cease the use of any equipment that may be deemed to constitute a safety hazard and/or work that may affect the quality or integrity of test results.
- Any person has the right to refuse to perform work that may damage the environment in an imminent and serious way and to report such a situation.
- Cease the use of any equipment that may be deemed to constitute a safety hazard or entry to hazardous environments without necessary knowledge and protection and take action to address the hazard.
- Cease to carry out work that may affect the quality (integrity) of services and take action to address the issue.
- Initiate a formal improvement request when a deviation of the system occurs, possible improvements are identified or when nonconformity is identified.
- Implementation and maintenance of the quality system.
**Qualifications** Education**
- BSc, BTech or National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry and/or proven years of laboratory, knowledge, skills and experience sufficient to be recognized as a qualification through - Recognition of Prior Learning
**Experience**
- Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in an analytical chemistry laboratory
- Able to perform various chemical techniques
- Computer Literate (Microsoft Office)
- Experience in instrumentation, data collection and reporting
- Fully acquainted with the SLIMS system (administration & operation)
**Required Skills**:
- Knowledge of Laboratory Quality Management System
- Must be able to do troubleshooting on instruments and methods used.
- Managing Good Laboratory Practice.
