Audio Mixer

The incumbent would be required to mix audio during live broadcast in studio and outside broadcast setting.

**Broadcasting Live mixing**

Conform to broadcast standards e.g. EBU, sync.

Set up fader strips on mixing console check e.g gains, aux etc.

Make sure the corresponding aux is opened to that corresponding telos/hybrid.

Set up and check channel strips for remote feeds via matrix.

Do technical checks with audio assistant. Due to Operational requirements Audio Mixer may be required to take/assume the role of an Audio Assistant on the studio floor or on location broadcast/recording.

Set up hybrids test unit etc.

Ensure that comms is working to all the relevant parties.

Lineup sync test with JHB/CPT engineer (color bars tone, clapper board test, lip sync and test signal generator)

Once talent is mic’d and ready, set up E.Q on their voices on the console.

During productions test hybrids with talent and guest via aux pre fade before putting them on air.

Mix audio to international standards 0db where possible.

While mixing listen to TD’s instructions, follow vision mixers visuals with corresponding audio.

Follow auto cue/teleprompter.

Check program output levels at all time to prevent distortion.

Listen to mix.

Make changes to packages, hybrid levels as required.

Communicate with TD and EP at all time.

Manage the Telecoms Station (TMAN) to dial out all IFBs & Coords.

Play the role of an audio assistant when required on outside broadcast or in studio.

**Responsible for audio mixing on location**

Record sound on location, usually in synchronization with a camera by means of a field mixer.

Prior to every shoot check gear and production requirements.

Set up mic’s labels and boom, check that the recievers and transmitters is paired to the same frequency (per pair).

Test battery voltage fr transmitters and transducers so that you have an idea how long you can record, always have a spare pair of batteries for mixer as well as transmitters and receivers.

Test with cameraman.

Mic up the talent, check the levels.

Manage audio signal/monitor audio.

Mix accordingly.

**Liaising**

Liaise with TD/EP about show requirements.

Write reports of issues dring productions to HOD of audio.
