Senior Draughtsperson

**Job Purpose**:
To provide a manual and computer aided draughting service, attend to public enquiries and provide
cable reticulation information to internal and external customers.

**Key Responsibility Areas**:
Capture electrical reticulation to ensure the electrical database is up to date.
Inspect cable capture by checking the electrical database for correctness.
Address enquiries by customers and internal staff by providing copies of manual data or
electronic data.
Attend to cable faults by participating in a standby roster, calculating the fault position and
providing an accurate and detailed plan of the fault description.
Prepare survey data received from the Surveyor Generals Office, Land Surveyors and Town
Planners.
Produce orthographic and isometric drawings of various electrical and mechanical equipment.
Develop and assist draughtspersons/trainee draughtspersons in all aspects of cable capture,
survey capture, processing of utility plans and minor hardware and software related problems.
Liaise with contractors and consultants, internal departments, other service units and external
customers.
Process all correspondence received by the Utility Plans Section by making sure that all asbuilt
electrical reticulation is clearly indicated, to ensure that the existing infrastrucure is not
damaged by future construction.

**Essential Requirements**:
Grade 12 with a pass in Mathematics and Engineering Graphics and Design or Geography; or
Grade 12 with Mathematics and must have completed a pupillage as trainee Draughtsperson
within the Department, or have received equivalent training externally.
Valid motor vehicle drivers license (Code B).
4 Years relevant Draughting and GIS experience in a network environment.

**Preferred Requirements**:
Multi-disciplinary Drawing Office Practice (MDDOP) certificate from a FET accredited by
SAQA; or a relevant tertiary qualification in GIS accredited by SAQA.
4 Years relevant Draughting/ GIS experience in an electrical network environment.
