Alfred H Knight has an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Technician - Production to join the team in Rustenburg. This individual will be responsible for carrying out analytical methods and standard operating practices under supervision to a high degree of precision and accuracy, ensuring that an effective and high quality analytical service is provided to meet reporting deadlines on the various types of samples / commodities submitted to the laboratory for analytical evaluation.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND WORK EXPERIENCE

Required Competencies
- Good timekeeping and time management skills.
- Hands-on experience with office equipment (e.g. printers)

Required Qualifications
- Grade 12 (with Maths and Science)
- Diploma in Analytical Chemistry

Required work experience
- Minimum 2 years experience in a production analytical chemistry laboratory with proven track record of fire assay, lead collection and weighing sample preparation, classical wet chemistry evaluation and reporting of analytical results.

**Responsibilities**:

- Ensuring at all times that a high degree of accuracy and precision is applied to methods and procedures through incorporating and promoting good laboratory practice principles.
- Responsible for ensuring that work throughput is followed in accordance to documented methods and procedures. It is the post holder’s responsibility to inform the Laboratory Manager / Lab Superintendant of any failure in compliance to documented methods.
- Advising the Laboratory Manager / Lab Superintendant of repetitive problems in connection with training and development objectives that manifest during the execution of day-to-day analytical methods and procedures and associated standard operating practices.
- Maintaining records and laboratory data in agreement with Laboratory Manager / Lab Superintendant such that work is clearly and easily auditable and traceable.
- Assisting the Laboratory Manager / Lab Superintendant in setting out and implementing suitable training programmes that will ensure that the post holder is sufficiently well trained to carry out their analytical responsibilities accurately and efficiently.
- Assisting the Laboratory Manager / Lab Superintendant in updating the post holders training record at every training milestone, while maintaining competency training records as a record of achievement.
- Ensuring that all laboratory work areas and work stations are kept clean and tidy.
- Undertake other duties of an appropriate nature in consultation with their Laboratory Manager / Lab Superintendant.
- Maintain a professional standard and appearance during office hours and while promoting the company when on company business.
- The Company’s Health & Safety policy is applied effectively in areas under the Post Holder’s control.
