Res Life Student Affairs Supervisor

KEY ELEMENTS OF THE ROLE
Our client provides modern purpose-built accommodation (PBSA) for students in tertiary education in South-Africa. They are looking for a dynamic Student Affairs Supervisor to join the team at Head Office. The individual must be energetic and a self-starter that can interact and communicate with stakeholders at different levels. The Student Affairs Supervisor will be responsible for the mental wellness support and governance of student communities.
**Main Responsibilities**:
**1. General Operations**:
- Ensure that procedures and policies are reviewed in line with best practice for students wellness
- Ensure managers and fellows/leadership team follow all protocols, laws and regulations in the wellness and support space to lead students efficiently
- Identify and communicate to students that are experiencing challenges
- Respond to crisis engagement, assessment, intervention, and evaluation at res level
- Collaboration with relevant departments to respond and assist in prevent mental wellness problems
- Document and track all mental wellness cases on a monthly basis
- Supervise the in-residence social worker programme and liaise with the respective universities on progress etc.
- Regularly engage with mental health providers to ensure maximum support for the student communities at all time.
- Ensure alignment to university mental wellness resources.
2. Student Governance (Number of incidents)
- Administer student discipline process. Ensure that Disciplinary Committees are reviewing and actioning disciplinary cases timeously
- Ensure that disciplinary case administration is being done accurately and timeously
- Participate in student disciplinary hearings
- Track and report on student incidences on a monthly basis
- Ensure that incidences are accurately and timeously being captured on Hi-Res.
- Understand the student Governance processes of key stakeholders (Universities Support structures, SADAG, Higher Health, Kaelo etc.)
3. Stakeholder Relationship Management
- Identify appropriate communication channels for mental health and governance issues
- Ensure that all helplines are readily available to students
- Ensure that students are aware of support channels within and external to the res.
**4. Administration, Assessment, and Organisation Input**:
- Develop a working knowledge of Hi-Res and provide reports and data as requested by ResLife management
- Provide research contribution, training, presentations on student wellness and social work impact
- Establish a sustainable training plan for staff and leadership team on effective student mental wellness support
- Prepare monthly reports on mental wellness and governance
- Evaluation of Student support and impact of wellness programmes (Formally formulate methods to access this data).
- Constantly align social work research theory with programming to help understand challenges.
- Design comparative analysis to understand residence mental wellness culture and behavior.
- Engage in practice-informed research and research informed practice)
SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
- Demonstrated experience in the areas of strategic planning and wellness program development.
- Knowledge of professional and ethical standards relating to student wellness and social work including and not limited to contracts and relevant legal considerations.
- Proficiency in planning and assessment of wellness programs and activities.
- Experience with student wellness assessment and incident management.
- Knowledge of student development and student learning theories.
- Ability to relate successfully in one-on-one and group situations with persons representing diverse social and cultural identities and interests.
- Strong knowledge of the cultural, social, recreational, and educational needs of the campus community.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent team building skills.
- Excellent human relations skills
- Ability to build positive and effective relationships across the residences.
- Demonstrate ethical and professional behaviour
- Engage diversity and difference in practice
- Advance human rights and social, economic, and environmental justice
QUALIFICATIONS
**A minimum of**:
- University degree or higher
- Two years of social work/ student wellness experience, one-year administrative experience strongly preferred; student leadership experience strongly preferred and familiarity with Hi-res system also strongly preferred.
**Technical Competencies**:
- A strong administrator with excellent IT skills across Microsoft products: Word, Excel, Adobe, and
PowerPoint (essential).
- Hi-res software familiarity
- Social work experience
