**Assistant Food Safety Officer**

**Purpose of the role**

The assistant food safety officer has a vital role to ensure food safety hazards are controlled. The role of the assistant food safety officer is to assist with the daily functions to ensure company compliance to food hygiene and standards, to ensure products produced; received and supplied are safe to consume for the company’s clients and customers.

- Subordinates_: N/A

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Traceability of daily batches
- Ensure that incoming meat raw material is acceptable for production
- Complete temperature checklist: temperature of dry store; temperature of incoming products; temperature of raw materials; cold room temperatures; and production room temperatures
- Complete hygiene cleaning checklist
- Oversee the cleaning and facility of the factory
- Compile production sheets (e.g., ingredients for products and raw materials)
- Management of allergens and foreign objects
- Assist with audit preparations
- Monitor and check protocols for dispatch and receiving area
- Ad hoc activities and tasks as assigned by the food safety manager and the production manager
- Assist the Technical officer with queries relating to product specifications, food safety, quality control and all queries directed to the Food Safety Manager.
- Generate list of approved spices and additives, with respected suppliers specified and ensure that this list is complied with.
- Assist the Technical officer to formulate and implement SOP protocols.
- Ensure compliance with Food Safety and HAACP requirements at all times.
- Check in with the Production team to relay production recipes and procedures
- Ensure that recipes are being carried out specification
- Report any maintenance, quality control and food safety issues to the Food Safety Manager and Technical officer
- Active involvement in remedy and implementation of con conformance corrective actions.

**Skills and Qualifications**:

- Previous experience in Butchery/ Production within the retail environment
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience within the food processing industry/ (food/meat processing)
- Tertiary Qualification in Food Science/Food Technology or related field preferred but not compulsory
- HACCP certificate
- FSSC 22000 certificate
- ISO9001 certificate
- A valid Matric Certificate
- Knowledge of meat market operations, hygiene, and food safety regulations
- Excellent communication skills, problem-solving and interpersonal skills
- Accurate and attention to detail
- Able to work under pressure
- A valid drivers license

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Cape Town, Western Cape: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (required)
