**About the part time position**:Christel House South Africa is looking for a dynamic,creative professional with a can-do attitude and who can engage fully with the spirit and ethos of Christel House South Africa.
- **The start date for the locum position is June 2023 until 8th December 2023.**_

**Main Responsibilities**:

- Provide learners with support as they try to overcome behavioural, self-esteem, emotional and/or developmental problems.
- Assist parents and teachers identify potential behavioral problems with their learners.
- Assess learners’ needs using psychological rating scales and observation. Report the results and make recommendations to teachers and parents.
- Counsel students individually and in groups in a range of educational and mental health areas.
- Refer learners or their families to other appropriate health professionals, social workers and/or welfare agencies as required.
- Contribute to a multi-discipline team for wholistic learner intervention.
- Provide learner support which is guided by trauma informed practices and restorative justice in discipline related matters and meetings.
- Where applicable, coordinate and guide student behavioural contracting using trauma informed practices and principles.
- Work with learners to identify their strengths, interests, and help them achieve their academic goals.
- Respond, as part of a team, to calls from schools experiencing major critical incidents.
- Carryout debriefing sessions with individuals or groups of students following a traumatic event.
- Understand student trends in area of practice to inform management decisions and strategic planning.
- Build strategic relationships with allied professionals to help provide student services and interventions.

- Professional Practices and Development - adheres to ethical standards of the counseling profession, and abides by the laws, policies, and procedures that govern the schools.
- Strong belief in the Christel House mission and educational model.

**Qualifications & Professional Registration**
- Bachelor’s degree in counseling, Psychology
- Registered as a Counsellor with the HPCSA
- A background in psychology is preferred.
- A background in urban education advantageous
- Cleared probity checks (police clearance) to work with students in a school setting.
