Diesel Electric Fitters

**General**

Overhaul and maintain diesel motors and other equipment by performing the following duties:

- Service and repair diesel electric locomotives, electrical units, diesel hydraulics, hopper wagons and auxiliary loco equipment pertaining to various machines and equipment.
- General fitting and electrical work as may be required during the course of business.
- Carry out basic arc and gas welding.
- Attend to emergency breakdowns and derailments.
- Maintain and repair tools and equipment (non
- locomotive).
- Spray painting of locomotives and wagons as may be required.
- The collection and delivery of parts and spares.
- Attend to record keeping and job related administration.
- Attend to work related safety meetings and act as safety representative when nominated

**Supervisory Responsibilities**

- Directly supervises 1 to 3 Artisan assistants.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include:

- Training employees
- Planning, assigning and directing work
- Appraising performances
- Rewarding and disciplining employees
- Addressing complaints
- Resolving problems
