Foundry Metallurgist

Manufacture and distribution of stainless steel, cast steel, low alloy steel & spheroidal graphite iron castings including associated products, components, wear parts and ground engaging tools (G.E.T) for the valve, petro-chemical, power, construction, and mining industries of Southern Africa

The Metallurgist will be responsible for establishing, maintaining, and implementing process controls surrounding metal processing to improve overall metal quality and cost. Additionally, this position oversees the Foundry Laboratory and its operations of process control for all testing, metallurgical and sand systems.

The Metallurgist must have a minimum of 4 years work experience as in a foundry.

**Responsibilities**:

- Monitor furnace lining wear and report status to the Production Manager to schedule reline when necessary.
- Ensure the sand mixers are calibrated.
- Compiling of daily production heat reports.
- Establish and monitor chemical and physical properties of all metals poured to meet customer specifications and governing standards.
- Establish and monitor sand properties to produce castings with good appearance and free from defects.
- The Metallurgist plays an important role in the quality of the castings being cast. If the quality of the moulds that are cast, are substandard it is guaranteed that there will be defects in the castings.
- Directly responsible for the Foundry Laboratory (equipment calibration, raw material usage, alloy additions.)
- Supervise Foundry Laboratory and assist Melting Department in an efficient manner to ensure consistent production of quality metal and control of foundry sand systems.
- Establish and audit pouring temperatures and practices to ensure good quality castings.
- Responsible for material certifications.
- Responsible for material evaluations of alloys to improve quality or reduce costs.
- Other Duties as requested or required.
