CNC Programmer

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

**PURPOSE OF THE JOB**: The **CNC Programmer** is responsible for programming and setting of CNC machines; this is a hands-on-position. Ensure that the product being machined is according to drawing specification. Preparation of programs and tooling prior to production run. Troubleshooting of machining defects, assist production in ensuring that the machining is according to drawing specification. Root cause analysis on machining defects in regards to programming and tooling. Reduction of machine cycle time and cost per component in regards to tooling. Implementation of improvement ideas in pre-setting and tool store. Machining of reworks and tooling as and when required. Creation of programs and tool setup sheets.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**

**CNC Programing**
- Compile CNC machining programs and create using CAM software
- Ensure CNC Programs and Setup sheets are to latest drawing
- Run production trials with created program to verify setup and sizes
- Ensure that all information is stored in the correct manner

**CNC Machine Setup**
- Responsible for transferring CNC Programs to CNC machines or program on machine
- Confirm that setup is done correctly and perform 1st off run confirm setup
- Ensure setup can be performed as specified in setup sheet - tooling, program, time allocated, machine time correct

**CNC Trouble Shooting**
- Assist with identifying issues with CNC machining
- Resolve issues with Programs, inserts and setting related issues by co-operation with all relevant departments

**CNC Optimisation**
- Optimise CNC machine programs by improving tool paths, inserts and tooling used
- Perform trials with suppliers to run new / proposed inserts and tools
- Run dynamic CNC Programming to determine best cycles
- Create baseline for cost per operation to track cost saving while maintaining product quality.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU SHOULD HAVE

**POST REQUIREMENTS**:

- Grade 12
- Trade test in Fitter and Turning or Tool Maker.
- At least 3 years professional experience in a continuous manufacturing environment.
- CNC machine operation and setting Experience - Programming, Optimisation and Specification.
- Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and achieve targets
- Excellent problem solving skills with ability to demonstrate judgement and initiative.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and ability to interact with people at all levels.
- Analytical thinker with good reasoning skills.
- Ability to work precisely and methodically with minimum supervision.
- Computer Literacy (MS Office, CAD, CAM - Solid Edge, NX Cam Desirable)
