**Job Details**:
A retail group has an exciting opportunity for a Store Manager whose primary area of responsibility and focus will be the management of the store.

As an anchor tenant, the store represents more than 90% of the lettable space of the centre. The store manager is expected to assist and oversee certain centre operations, as an example, but not limited to, cleaning, maintenance and security. The Landlord, while part of the same group, has their offices located in Ballito and are therefore not on-site regularly. The ability to control or influence certain elements of centre maintenance is a direct benefit for the store and therefore the store manager. Tenants of the Centre include, Post Office, Standard Bank, KFC, and an Optometrist, with all their operations are comparatively small and value adds to the Store.

Location: Wartburg, KwaZulu-Natal (33 km outside of Pietermaritzburg)

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES, NOT LIMITED TO**:
Sustainability
- Operate the store in a manner than ensures sales growth and profitability
- Drive sales, maximize gross profit, control expenses, and manage ratios.
- Able to read, understand and analyze financial statements
- Must be able to think analytically
- seeks reports that are available, or design reports based on information required
- read and analyze reports and thereafter;
- make educated and calculated decisions based on what the reports/information is indicating.
- Must have a passion for using information to make decisions that drives the business forward.
- Based on trends and projections, must be confident to develop monthly budgets, and then disaggregate the information into monthly/weekly/daily/hourly
- Understand the importance of setting accurate budgets as this drives production planning and staff scheduling, and estimate errors that have financial consequences
- While there will be assistant managers, department supervisors/controllers within the stores senior team, the store manager must be passionate and develop an understanding of the operations of ALL aspects of the business ( Administration function, Service and floor departments, staffing)
- Ultimate responsibility remains with the store manager, and is not delegated to assistant managers or supervisors/controllers.
- Must be confident in setting themselves and their team timelines and targets and executing in a manner that ensures these are met.
- Effective communication with store/owner and the senior executive team.
- Innovation : it is imperative that the store manager is in touch with and understands modern technology, to drive the business forward

Customers
- It is vitally important that the store manager truly understands our customer and the market we operate in.
- A unique challenge to the Store is that the customer base covers both the very low and a very high LSM (Living standards measure) market and it is vitally important that the store manager can relate to both these markets and the in between in order to best meet customer expectation.
- It is important that the store manager constantly evaluates who the target market is, and ensures that our offering is tailored made to service these customers’ needs and wants (range/quality etc. etc.)
- The store manager needs to be the face of the business. They need to be approachable and relatable not only with customers, but with staff and suppliers. They need to be respected as someone who will listen to concerns and execute solutions.

Staff
- The group recognizes that staff are both our greatest asset and defining offering. However, at the same time, they are the largest expense that we have the ability to manage through scheduling, productivity and development.
- The total store staff compliment for the store is 97 staff. The store manager will be expected to oversee all these staff members.
- Given the size and complexity of the store, it is imperative that the store manager is a born leader, and possess the ability to manage staff in a manner that ensures their growth/motivation and delivery.

- Employ, develop, train, and retain staff to ensure improved performance of both the individual, the team and as a result; the business
- Lead by example and demonstrate that all decisions and actions are done in terms of what is right for the store/business and not what is best for the individual
- Ensure staff understand and adhere to the group’s disciplines, controls, procedures, rules and regulations (DCP’s and R&R’s)
- Actively contribute towards the development and motivation of all staff members, so as to create a happy and content workforce.
