Maintenance Technician

**Job Summary**

Repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment, and maintenance of buildings, grounds, and utility systems by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates or contractors.

**Key performance Areas**
- Installing, maintaining, and repairing machinery and equipment.
- Maintaining and repairing all electronic and mechanical plant equipment
- Using specialized tools, such as welding machines, grinders, drills
- Project work and machine improvements
- Preventative maintenance and servicing to ensure optimum running
- Troubleshooting - trying to resolve issues quickly and efficiently
- Attending to call outs and breakdowns

**Responsibilities**
- Ensure all plant, machinery & equipment to an acceptable working standard to achieve production targets without supervision.
- Assemble, install, test and service, plant machinery and equipment as per operational requirements.
- Assist with maintaining and improving safety standards and systems within the company.
- Sound knowledge of safety regulations, practices and procedures.
- Inspect machinery and equipment to identify hazards, defects and the need for adjustment/repair to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Diagnose malfunctioning machinery and equipment and effect necessary repairs.
- Attend to breakdowns after hours to maintain productivity standards.
- Ensure all plant, machinery & equipment checks are carried out as prescribed in the maintenance schedule.
- Conducting routine inspections of premises and equipment
- Maintenance and repair of electrical power, lighting and communication systems in the factory and office blocks
- Troubleshoots, repairs and maintains electrical distribution systems including motors, controls and clocking systems
- Test malfunctioning machinery apparatus such as transformers, motors and lighting fixtures
- Wiring, conduits fixtures and other conduits
- Cleaning contacts and circuit boards
- Ensuring that systems are grounded and installing outlets, lighting fixtures and switches
- Install, maintain and enhance electrical systems and components, including fuses, lights and wiring
- Inspect, test and diagnose issues with electrical systems and components
- Perform all work in a manner that meets and follows electrical codes, blueprints and standards
- Test electrical systems and components to ensure proper functioning
- Involvement and execution of all installations
- Involvement in all electrical projects
- Coordinating major jobs that require more than one person
- Checking and calibrating of scales; Calibrate equipment to provided specifications
- Repairing the scales
- Responding to routine and emergency call outs for repairs and services
- Complete required documentation for repairs and service information
- Checking the cooling towers
- Daily Inspection and reporting of required maintenance to Maintenance Manager
- Preventative measures such as oiling gearboxes, greasing bearings, replacing old wiring, etc

**General**
- Work as part of a bigger department and in collaboration with colleagues as and when required
- Report on and record all repairs and service information on machinery, buildings, grounds and utility systems
- Written reports to management as required
- Train and direct work of contractors and subordinates as and when required
- Team-player, working as part of a wider team
- Report to Operational Managers for CEC and CC
- The employee will be required from time to time to perform other job functions based on company requirements.

**Skills, Experience and Abilities**
- Grade 12 with Math's, Science and English
- NQF 4 Occupational Trade Qualification Electromechanition
- Electrical knowledge and experience is essential
- 2 - 5 years experience
- PLC Knowledge and experience essential
- Instrument + Control Knowledge
- Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
- Ability to perform under pressure.
- Ability to work under no supervision.
- Ability to work in a team.
- Standby and call out duties after hours
- Drivers License Code 8, Own transport
- Ability to work flexible/after hours and on call at nights and weekends as required.
- Strong fault finding skills.
- Well-spoken and professional
- Manually dexterous, able to work with hands doing concentrated work in limited space
- Ability to climb and move around machinery

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (required)
