We are looking to recruit a Legal Counsel with a proven record of client service and a practical, problem-solving approach to support our businesses, based in South Africa.

Role Responsibilities- Providing a wide range of legal advice and support to the business, sales, technology and procurement teams.- Reviewing, drafting, revising and negotiating a wide range of agreements with customers, vendors, partners and other third parties, including data licenses, software and other intellectual property related licenses, SaaS, outsourcing, master agreements, term and conditions, non-disclosure agreements, and other commercial agreements.- Advising and responding on legal issues related to the collection, usage and licensing of news/content/data/software services from multiple sources, disputes, regulatory issues, technology, vendors, intellectual property, privacy and cybersecurity matters, data misuse, and consumer complaints.- Supporting the coordination of legal matters handled by outside counsel and managed legal service providers.- Sharing responsibility for maintaining, updating and revising contract template agreements, processes and playbooks, supporting on special projects where required.- Helping to identify, research, assess and brief senior lawyers and business stakeholders on potential and actual risks and legal exposures and assist in taking appropriate proactive and remedial measures.- Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of laws and regulations that may impact the business and implementing internal controls, policies and procedures to assure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, corporate policies, ethical standards and oversee adherence to contractual obligations.

Qualifications and Experience Required- Qualified lawyer with 2+ years’ experience in a legal position handling a broad range of commercial law disciplines.- Exposure to financial services, technology, data and workflow is advantageous.- Must be fluent in English with excellent written and oral communications skills to interact confidently and effectively with internal and external stakeholders.- Strong contract negotiation and drafting abilities with the ability to understand and simplify complex concepts and issues.- Outstanding commitment to internal and external customer service.- Excellent planning, organizational, analytical, operational and decision-making skills; comfortable with using technology to support these.- Strong skills to work both collaboratively and independently.- Sound administrative and time management skills, with sharp attention to detail.- Ability to lead project workstreams and manage deadlines.- Excellent interpersonal skills and capability to build strong, trusted and effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders across different functions and cultures, positively influencing the behavior of multiple stakeholders, and successfully balancing legal issues against pragmatic commercial solutions..
