**ROLE PURPOSE**

Ensure the safe installation of electrical supply to the business from MV (Medium Voltage) to LV (Low voltage). The incumbent tasks a small group of specialists and the scope / portfolio of this role includes installing, connecting and removing mini-substations, and performing planned and preventative maintenance on substations and the electrical components of the ore transfer systems.

**Work of the Role (KPA)**

**Lead teams of specialists to install, connect and remove mini-substations**
- **Ensure the supply of power for purposes of Underground Mining**_
- Liaise with Line Managers and related departments to understand design and location of required mini-substations
- Work and communicate with construction and mining crews to ensure that the dedicated cubby design, location and structure is fit for purpose
- Ensure that all required parts, cables, components, mini-substations etc are ordered and available in advance
- Supervise, give instruction and support to team of electricians and assistants
- Lead team to install the mini-substation according to prescribed (South African) standards
- Lead team to install restraining wire, earth wire, cables and other components according to prescribed (South African) standards
- Lead team to connect mini-sub to cable and to linking mini-sub as required, according to standards and with correct testing sequence
- Lead team to install any fans, gully stands and other necessary components as required and according to standards
- Ensure testing and checking of all installations, connections, settings, voltage etc is undertaken when required and according to safety standards
- Undertake any required installations which connect to surface mini-substations
- Lead team to perform preventative maintenance on mini-substations and Substations according to standards
- Test and approve electrical connections on pumping stations, prior to commissioning
- Remove mini-substations according to standards, as and when required
- Lead team to check pump stations power supply: Mini-subs and RMUs; inspect and approve

**Conveyor Belt checking**
- Lead team to perform weekly checks of trip switches, trip wires, Pecker rock-breaking machines, with a focus on conveyor and instrumentation
- Lead team to undertake Breakdown repairs with a view to maintaining mining operations
- Undertake fault-finding to identify problems as and when required
- Check that work completed is satisfactory and completed to quality and standards
- Monitor and control business processes according to quality standards; policy; and compliance and governance requirements in area of accountability

- _Pumping and conveying electrical systems installed and maintained to 90% operation_

**Stakeholder management**

- Manage relationships with Warehousing and Stores to ensure parts availability and manage stock control
- Manage relationship with Mining Department to align planning and scheduling, address any problems, understand issues and manage expectations
- Build relationship with Construction Electrical team to better transfer knowledge regarding HT and MV systems and equipment, and gain assistance with training
