As a Maintenance Technician with minimum experience (+-1 year), you will be expected to maintain our solar PV electrical infrastructure. Your job will involve retrofitting electrical wiring, troubleshooting malfunctions and blackouts, completing scheduled maintenance checks and repairing solar PV systems.

As a Maintenance Technician, you will maintain our solar systems, minimise the probability of accidents and downtime, and maximise solar systems' smooth operations.

**Position Of the Job in the Organisation**:
**Principal Duties/Responsibilities**:

- Solar PV asset monitoring and reporting.
- Attend to all breakdowns, do fault finding/root cause analysis and resolve, fix or replace the faulty equipment with mínimal energy loss.
- Routine and scheduled maintenance checks to prevent the breakdown of systems by inspecting, and replacing old wiring and insulated cables, cleaning circuits etc.
- Perform effective troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair or substitute damaged units.
- Install electrical apparatus, safety/distribution components, and electronic apparatus when upgrading and replacing solar systems.
- Manage relationships with customers and contractors when operating queries, concerns, and on-site work needs to be completed.
- Submission of maintenance-related documentation, including reporting.
- Diagnose and replace PV panels;
- Diagnose, test, repair and replace cables, cable interconnections, PV junction/string boxes, connectors and fuses in PV systems, and transformers HV yard equipment, switchgear and control gear in PV systems.
- Health & Safety adherence at all times.
- Perform standby duties.
- Train/mentor Apprentices
- Any other job duties as required.

**PERSON DESCRIPTION**

**Experience**:

- Proven experience as an electrician. Diploma in relevant vocational training or completed apprenticeship as an electrician.
- Demonstrable ability to use electrical and hand tools (e.g., wire strippers, voltmeter etc.) and electrical drawings.
- Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and legal regulations and guidelines.
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability.
- Able to effectively multitask, prioritise and meet strict deadlines.
- Valid driver's license and willing to travel.
- Resourceful and comfortable working in a high pace and changing environment.
- Comfortable with working at heights.
- Computer literacy (MS Office).

**Advantageous Skills Include**:
Knowledge of:

- Solar systems.
- Generators.
- SANS 10142 and NRS 097-2 standards specifically reference embedded generation.
- Surge and Lightning protection and grounding systems.
- Networking equipment and industrial communication protocols like Modbus, RS485, Ethernet, etc.

**Work Conditions**:

- Overtime may be required to meet required deadlines.
- Working over weekends may be needed when high-priority sites have emergency call-outs.
- After-hour monitoring of the PV assets will be required.

**What Does Success Look Like?**

**By month 3**:
I will be familiar with our software and finance processes. I will have conducted quarterly reviews and know how to utilise the monitoring platforms for high-level fault finding.

**By month 6**:
I have mastered having the systems perform constantly; by reducing the reoccurring faults experienced on-site, I will be accountable and guide the apprentice to conduct work alone.

**By month 12**:
I can confidently run the Department and have achieved a 98% performance under the assets under my control; the apprentice has the knowledge to conduct site maintenance and fault finding without assistance.
