Infrastructure Investment Specialists are currently seeking to appoint an experienced ESG Associate to join their dynamic team of professionals.

The position has the potential to develop into an investment principal role over the medium term i.e.

**Key duties and responsibilities**:

- Support the implementation and commitment to ESG integration in investment processes
- Undertaking and/or overseeing ESG assessments for portfolio companies including due diligence, post-acquisition value creation and monitoring
- Delivering ESG training to operationalise ESG within the Fund and portfolio companies
- Analyse evolving ESG trends-including reporting standards, rating systems, and shareholder expectations-to identify key disclosures on which IIM should focus
- Monitoring and working with Portfolio companies to improve their operational and ESG systems, policies and procedures, including the implementation of agreed corrective action plans
- Provide input and ideas for new data collection methods, product/process improvements and quality initiatives
- Provide and support end-to -end reporting on ESG performance, plans and issues as required by business and stakeholder
- Provide in depth and creative analysis of ESG and global mega trends impact themes
- Ensure the ESG principles, plans and issues are adopted in the investment decision-making process and enforce compliance in line with the approved ESG governance framework
- Assess companies from an impact perspective
- Analyse and measure factors in business models, products and services that enable long term environmental and social impact returns
- Formulate comprehensive ESG impact investment cases, reflecting both the financial and impact aspects of any recommendation
- Conduct engagements with companies on ESG issues
- Conduct ESG due diligence to select investment opportunities and portfolio investee companies
- Ensure the implementation of ESG Action Plans
- Conduct periodic impact analysis
- Conduct and support ESG research
- Producing thought leadership research exploring the business and macro-economic case for ESG analysis and integration
- Design user-friendly matrices for management of ESG Data
- ESG reporting methodologies, report on ESG performance, plans and issues as required by business and stakeholders
- Provide in depth and creative analysis of ESG and global mega trends impact themes, evaluate its market potential, and define metrics that can be used to measure and report on the impact on environment/society (contribution to the UN SDGs)
- Monitor investee compliance in terms of ESG legal and regulatory compliance
- Escalate non-compliance, as appropriate, to remedy with investee management
- Create and maintain an electronic undertakings checklist per individual investee and a consolidated portfolio view
- Perform undertakings compliance reviews for active investments
- Complete and maintain a detailed consolidated Investee ESG Compliance Report on all compliance findings, ranking non
- compliance by risk category
- Create and maintain a historical (electronic) compliance history per investee
- On an annual basis, ensure investee securities are in place and enforceable
- Assist with the preparation and presentation of reporting requirements

**Qualifications & Experience**:

- ** B Degree in Business, Finance, Social, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Developmental studies, Economics** and any other relevant Degree
- ** Preferred Qualifications**: Post Graduate Degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Corporate Governance, and Human Resources, MBA, CFA
- ** 2 to 4 years of working experience in private equity and/or infrastructure investing**:

- Expertise or knowledge in **impact investing and ESG**:

- Extensive knowledge of and passion for **financial markets, ESG and Infrastructure sector**:

- Be familiar with applicable **local and national ESG requirements for Infrastructure projects** in South Africa and the applicable regulations and standards
- Knowledge and experience in **global standards and frameworks: such as UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD**) and others
- Have the ability to identify **evolving trends in ESG expectations performance and reporting** requirements
- Understanding of Impact measurement and management and the **IFC Performance Standards**:

- ** ESG Post Investment monitoring knowledge/experience**:

- Be able to develop and sustain positive working relationships including buy in from a diverse set of stakeholders
