Facilitator/Carer for 17-year-old neurodivergent male - Durbanville area.
We are seeking a dedicated facilitator/carer to work one-on-one with a 17-year-old male who loves trains, airplanes, and boats. This role requires someone who genuinely cares about helping others and is prepared to provide long-term, consistent support. We are looking for someone who is patient, compassionate, kind, playful and empathetic, with a genuine interest in supporting and engaging with the individual on a personal level.
To be a “helping hand” to an individual with unique and specific challenges and support needs, giving him the necessary guidance and support to thrive. A special interest and passion to be a secure, long-term source of support to a neurodivergent individual is of the utmost importance.
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to support his individual needs.
- Provide companionship and emotional support.
- Ensure predictability and consistency in his daily structure and routine.
- Support his executive functioning, including planning, problem-solving, and reasoning.
- Assist with regulation needs, reducing uncertainty and anxiety.
- Understand and address his physical needs, adapting the environment and support needed accordingly.
- Assist with ordinary activities like dressing, eating, collecting from school or taking to physical therapy appointments, etc. Help with personal hygiene (bathing, brushing teeth, bathroom assistance). Be with him round-the-clock, 24/7 assistance and attention during the time with him.
Support and training from his occupational therapist.
Fluent in Afrikaans - Essential.
Valid driver’s license and reliable car - Essential.
Previous experience in a supportive mentorship/facilitator role supporting neurodivergent adults - Essential.
Previous experience in a caregiver role - Desirable.
Previous experience in a type of helping profession - Desirable.
Familiarity with a low arousal approach to create a comfortable environment for him - Essential.
Knowledge and understanding of cerebral palsey - Essential.
Knowledge and understanding of global developmental delays - Essential
Ability to minimise stress and anxiety for the individual - Essential.
Strong verbal communication skills - Essential.
Strong executive functioning skills, i.e., ability to implement structure - Essential.
Social and life skills - Essential.
Relationship building and interpersonal skills - Essential.
Working hours:
Monday - Friday: 13:30 - 18:30 (Fridays collect 13:00)
Saturday: 08:00 - 18:30
**Salary**: R15 000 - R20 000.
