**Job Advert Summary**:
Hello an exciting new opportunity has just become available in our HINT, Actuarial area. We are looking to recruit an Investment Analyst. The Investment Analyst will contribute towards developing the investment management function for Hollard’s African subsidiaries through:
Ensuring the investment strategy remains appropriate and aligned to investment objectives through robust management and reporting;
Continued analysis and monitoring of existing and potential investment opportunities through in-depth assessment of quantitative and qualitative factors; and
Development, management, reporting and evolution of the investment strategy for new savings products to be launched across Hollard’s subsidiaries.
**Key Responsibilities**:
Investment Management & Reporting
Drafting of **portfolio mandates** for all balance sheet portfolios for both life and non-life licenses and ensuring mandates are maintained and updated through an annual review process.
Monthly **performance measurement** for balance sheet portfolios including development, automation, maintenance and integration of performance reporting models.
Development and maintenance of **performance dashboards** that will feed into investment committee reporting.
Driving regular internal **performance monitoring** meetings which includes extracting and packaging insights, providing investment recommendations based on past returns and forward-looking views and contributing to investment-related debates.
Driving regular **feedback sessions** with third party managers across Hollard’s African licenses, including ongoing assessment and monitoring of fund managers.
Investment Analysis
Carrying out **due diligence** of potential managers through vetting of investment philosophy, processes, people and historical performance.
Ad-hoc assessment and **appraisal** of the strategic fit and alignment of potential investment opportunities that will support business growth.
Continued assessment and management of Hollard’s **strategic investments** through engagement with partners and analysis of performance metrics.
Quarterly assessment of **credit exposures** across subsidiaries including annual credit review of banking sectors across African regions.
Management and Reporting of Savings Products Suite
Ensuring investment strategy remains appropriate for the investment objectives of the entire **savings product** suite through ongoing monitoring and robust assessment of position on a regular basis.
Monitoring of investment return allocation to policyholders to ensure consistency between investment returns earned and meeting policyholder reasonable expectations.
Assist in developing investment strategies for guaranteed-based investment products through use of **ALM matching **techniques.
Provide support and feedback into subsidiary **investment committees.**
Market Data and Research
Conducting African **research **on macroeconomic factors, policies, currencies and key variables impacting sustainability and growth of business in order to derive a house view for each of Hollard’s African territories.
Regular extraction and processing of **market data** from Bloomberg and other sources.
Provision of **forward rates** to be used in quarterly reserve valuations for African subsidiaries.
**Required Knowledge and Experience**:
A minimum of 2-3 years of related experience in asset or investment management, balance sheet management or related functions.
Interest in investments or investment-related functions.
Strong technical skills.
Advanced Excel skills.
Knowledge and experience of performance calculation, performance attribution, asset allocation, manager selection and portfolio construction.
Strong communication skills and ability to interact with people at different levels of seniority, including key members in the African subsidiaries.
Basic knowledge of financial accounting, actuarial and related processes.
Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
Strong conceptual and problem-solving skills to balance various stakeholder interests and provide recommendations.
High level of numeracy, accuracy and attention to detail.
Knowledge of asset valuation.
Working experience with Bloomberg will be an added advantage (not pre-requisite).
**Educational Requirements**:
BSc (Hons) with specialisation in Quantitative Finance or Risk/ Computational or Mathematical Finance/ Mathematics/ Statistics or related degree; or CFA or similar professional designation; or Actuarial Analyst (BSc degree in Actuarial Science, minimum 3 exams).
