**Job Description**:
**The Lab Technician**: Coal Laboratory is responsible to analyze coal samples in the most accurate and productive way, evaluate and report the results correctly, clearly, objectively, and timely to comply with the contractually agreed turn-around-times. To support the Senior Lab Technician: coal Laboratory to meet the business objectives and ensure compliance to the Company policies and business guidelines

Analyzing of all coal samples for specific analysis using the correct procedures and/or methods.Collect analysis samples and perform analysis within the prescribed time frames to meet TAT.Calibration of instruments.Verifying of instruments.Maintain laboratory instruments and apparatus and ensure preventative maintenance is conducted.Diagnose all suspect results and assist in rectifying the problem whether it is equipment or analytical.Calculate test results as per standard format and/or procedures.Report results within the time frame specified by the contract.Completion and filing of Control charts for the standards of the instruments used.Verify test results against control samples and charts.Re-analyze analysis samples when control results are not within the control charts limits.Changing of gas cylinders.Cleaning of laboratory and immediate working area.Comply with and adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS QHSE management systems.Assist the Senior Lab Technician with and contribute towards cost control of consumables and the maintaining of associated records and stock levels.Keep abreast of new trends, current development and relevant research.Assist with training of Lab Technicians and Operators on new methods and/or procedures.Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by the direct line manager.

**Qualifications**:
Minimum Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science.Preferably a Degree/Diploma in Metallurgy or Chemistry.

Additional Information

Minimum of 2 year coal analysis and general laboratory experience.Coal sampling and sample preparation experience
