**Security**: Core solutions should enable least-privilege access, whether for end users, employees, business partners, vendors, or system administrators. The SA architect must have the ability to design the least privilege into every IAM function and understand the capabilities of technologies.

**Interoperability**: For components to operate more automatically and intelligently, they need to consume inputs from other SAs and security systems.

**Vision**: The vision represents the shared understanding resulting from collaboration with program leaders and business stakeholders. A successful vision results in a working consensus and relationships among key stakeholders in establishing the objectives, priorities, and funding for the program.

**Roadmap**: The roadmap reflects program objectives and priorities as projects on a timeline. As the roadmap is developed, objectives and priorities are revisited and refined for clarification and to fill in any gaps identified.

**Architecture**: A formal architecture for the program should be created and maintained by an SA architect. The architecture organizes and documents information about SA capabilities Coverage should include current and future dimensions in the architecture to assist stakeholders in managing requirements and future expectations.

**Business case**: The SA architect is required to articulate the business value of initiatives to non-technical audiences. The architect’s purpose is to make the case for funding the organization’s strategy, which requires resources for projects as well as headcount for ongoing operations. The SA architect ensures alignment of the technology deployments to business drivers, defines success metrics and identifies risks and mitigation strategies.

**Role-specific knowledge**:
Proven capability of managing a portfolio of global projects

Proven capability in systems architecture development, solutions design, and commercial systems integration to generate a competitive advantage

Ability to lead and manage projects globally

The capability of representing the business in dealings with external vendors and partners

Strong ability to identify business requirements and translate them into appropriate solutions

Operating in shared services, outsourcing, and matrix environments

Budget, project, and change management

**About role**:
Architecting hybrid deployments, of which some components are hosted in the cloud and others are on-premises, is another important proficiency for the SA architect.

SA architect needs to account for factors such as routing traffic over the internet and assessing reliability issues with the network. Architecting additional redundancy in the cloud services may be necessary to account for a disruption in the cloud-delivered IAM service should there be a mismatch between IAM component service levels in the cloud and the on-premises components.

Another deployment ability consideration is data distribution. The SA architect may need to design the data model to minimize unnecessary data transfer between identity repositories to optimize throughput and reduce associated costs. One principle to keep in mind is that, if processing occurs where the data resides, then the data transfer is minimized. Services such as data aggregation and transformation can be tuned to support this principle. Data privacy is also impacted depending on the type of data movement. Controls need to be put in place to protect data at rest and to ensure no data replication occurs in regions that would violate data residency regulations.

SA architects require a good understanding of containers and container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes. If support is required for hybrid or multi-cloud environments, SA architects need to understand the interoperability between Kubernetes services running on different cloud platforms, as well as on-premises container as a service (CaaS) platforms.

SA architects that need to provide solutions to software developers and architects must have a good understanding of the modern web and mobile architectures and modern web browsers and web protocols such as JavaScript and HTML5, the latest web standards and protocols, and keep track of new developments.

**Formal qualifications**:
Degree in IT, Business Administration, Engineering, Scientific Discipline, Mining, or equivalent.

Cloud certifications required - Microsoft Azure

Minimum of 5 Years experience in Architecture
