**_ Position Purpose:_**
- Manage the continuity and security of the supply of goods and services to ensure the right quality of commodities and

services at competitive prices and at mínimal contractual risk,through:

- Conducting commercial negotiations with suppliers
- Running the tender process
- Establishing supplier contracts
- Developing portfolio-focused key industry economic indicators and cost models relating to suppliers
- Develop and implement commodity strategies and cost containment initiatives for achieving procurement savings targets
- Support key purchasing requirements and manage the Academy’s portfolio of commodities through cross-functional

sourcing teams
- Monitor and develop supplier performance through ongoing collaboration and engagement
- Ensure that the procurement and delivery of goods and services comply to Transnet’s procurement policies, processes and

all relevant governance requirements

**_ Position outputs:_**

Commodity strategy execution
- Provide commercial leadership to the commodity team in the development and implementation of commodity strategies and

cost reduction initiatives
- Develop portfolio-focused strategies and tactics for cost containment on strategic contracts
- Identify key economic trends on suppliers in the portfolio
- Develop portfolio focused key supplier cost models and update regularly
- Forecast consumption and usage as input to strategy development
- Implement portfolio-specific commodity strategies;
- Measure portfolio TCO (total cost of ownership) savings performance and supplier performance
- Monitor commodity strategy implementation from a commercial / contract point of view

Tender process administration
- Administer the tender award process
- Conduct and facilitate commercial evaluation and adjudication of supplier bids and coordinate technical evaluation
- Obtain adjudication power sign-off
- Agree supplier negotiation metrics with the Procurement Manager and negotiate and finalise all contract terms and

conditions with the successful supplier
- Establish, manage and maintain strategic portfolio contracts
- Manage price and scope changes, amendments and queries
- Increase contract base by motivating for contract establishment

changes
- Manage and monitor supplier performance against relevant criteria, including:

- Delivery
- o Product Quality
- SHE requirements
- ISO standards
- Responsiveness
- Partnering capability
- Consumption
- Payment

Progress Monitoring and Reporting
- Consolidate and report on delivery against savings targets for commodities
- Track progress against savings plan, delivery of benefits targets and action plans for

commodities
- Highlight achievement of strategic and tactical targets
- Collaborate with commodities team to ensure that deadlines are met
- Provide regular feedback on progress and highlight or escalate issues and problems

immediately as they occur to the Procurement Manager
- Governance and Risk Management
- Ensure good and proper governance in all aspects of commodity and contract management inline with procurement policies,

processes, BBBEE and relevant legislation
- Identify procurement risks and opportunities, and implement effective plans and initiatives to avoid or mitigate potential loss

and/or to exploit potential opportunities
- Guide the business response to risk, based on best practice and recognition of contextual factors that may have an impact,

i.e. conflicting political and economic trends, legislation and regulations, etc
- Implement P2P controls framework and monitor compliance
- Control and monitor system access in terms of user profiles and purchase groups for P2P
- Implement and monitor Critical Financial Controls

Supplier Relationship Management
- Build sound relationships with key suppliers, end-users and materials managers
- Manage supplier performance reviews and supplier scorecards
- Monitor and develop supplier performance through collaboration and engagement
