**Context of the role**

We are looking for a Safeguarding and Youth Participation Manager who will lead the delivery of safeguarding, youth participation and community engagement activities in South Africa. This includes creating a safeguarding culture by embedding safeguarding agenda across the key functions of Girl Effect including its brands and products. It also entails ensuring meaningful youth participation and engagement of the adolescents and young people we are working with and for.

**What you will do**

Policy and processes
- Support the ongoing development, implementation and monitoring of safeguarding policies and procedures across Girl Effect
- Promoting a culture where the safety of children and young people is at the heart of everything we do
- Ensure appropriate local reporting and response mechanisms and procedures are in place and followed, and that these reflect the local legal and cultural contexts
- Conduct country context mapping; including legal framework, cultural context and available referral services, and is updated annually
- In collaboration with in-country Safeguarding teams, build relationships with referral services and develop referral pathways to ensure that Girl Effect provides safe and effective signposting to children and young people in need of protection
- Lead in the management of serious safeguarding concerns in the country with support from the Director of Programmes and Safeguarding
- Ensure that confidential records of safeguarding concerns are maintained, and that appropriate follow-up is conducted
- Support Safeguarding teams to conduct an annual safeguarding self-assessment and resulting work plan to address gaps and reduce organisational risk

Technical support on safeguarding and youth participation
- Provide capacity building to country teams, ensuring they have the skills and confidence to deliver safeguarding measures and practices as well as youth participation within their roles
- Provide safeguarding training to partners (such as production, media, research, UX design companies) & consultants hired in-country to ensure they meet GE safeguarding requirements
- Support the global safeguarding team to develop /review and update safeguarding training materials, tools, and resources to help all staff implement safeguarding policies and procedures across all South African brands, products, and channels
- Working with the Senior Safeguarding Manager to build the organisation's expertise in digital safeguarding and embed this across teams in-country
- Lead on meaningful Youth Participation technical support for all programmes and partnerships in Kenya. For example, but not limited to programme design, research, and design sprints workshops with young people

Programme design and implementation
- Support the integration of safeguarding and meaningful youth participation into the programme life cycle. Collaborate with the programmes team and/or product design teams to ensure that safeguarding and youth participation are integrated into the design and delivery of activities
- Working with the global safeguarding and youth participation teams to develop yearly team objectives interlinked to the organisations' strategy
- Support Girl Effect staff and partners to develop safe youth-friendly briefings, review project materials and ensure safe children and youth participation
- As required, contribute to proposal/concept note development on safeguarding and youth participation
- As required, contribute to donor reports on safeguarding and youth participation in-country
- Support the safeguarding and youth participation teams in documenting and sharing best practices and lessons learned

Youth programming
- Lead the design, set-up and implementation of the youth advisory panel and youth creator network in South Africa
- Project management of youth programming including work plans, timelines, contracting and invoices
