**_ Position Purpose:_**

The purpose of this position is to develop and implement a pricing strategy that complies with the overall business strategy to

ensure the sustainability of the businesses and reach its potential in determining competitive pricing strategies to gain market

share and achieve revenue goals.

To develop pricing guidelines, standards, policies, and procedures for the Transnet Freight Rails Business Sectors

input data to produce tariff adjustment recommendations as part of the annual budgeting process and both long and short

term contracting processes.

Develop and train subordinates in the process of evaluating, calculating, and negotiating rail prices. Analyse data from

multiple sources, develop complex pricing models, and collaborate with sales and marketing teams to develop sales

strategies. (this purpose is taken from the 21st Century)

To ensure that a TFR pricing policy is implemented and competitive rail tariffs are determined in accordance with the

Transnet Pricing Guideline, by developing, implementing and maintaining dynamic pricing solutions, models and tools aligned

to strategies, regulatory and legislative frameworks in order to grow new and existing business.

End result will be implemented competitive rail tariffs per segment, corridor, account and service offering over the short,

medium and long term that maximise TFR’s profitability and capacity utilisation.

**_ Position outputs:_**

Develop Pricing Policy, Strategy and Processes
- Translate Transnet and Transnet Freight Rail Market Strategies into an overarching Transnet Freight Rail Pricing Strategy
- Develop Pricing Policy and implement relevant pricing Guidelines; verify compliance and adherence to Pricing policies,

principles, and procedures.
- Define general pricing guidelines / framework encompassing a set of factors that must be considered at pricing decisions

(e.g., competition intensity, customer ability to pay).
- Continuously monitor pricing decisions by sales managers and ensure appropriate price points are in place for individual

products and customers
- Track relevant factors on pricing decisions over time (such as effects of regulatory decisions, competitors pricing) and

implement appropriate measures.
- Monitor and evaluate Sales, Margins/Profits to advise on customer retention and market response
- Responsible for testing and verifying pricing principles and compliance with legislation (especially Comp Act) in respect of
- Set pricing principles and business rules for the Pricing of new services including differentiated service offerings
- Troubleshoot pricing issues: discrepancies with sales team and documentation
- Develop and maintain proper controls to maintain the integrity and security of all pricing information
- Ongoing assessments of costs to serve relative to active prices
- Conduct ongoing predictive analysis based on changing market circumstances.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPI)
- Adjust sales force KPI’s as it relates to pricing - set explicit price reallocation targets
- On-going risk mitigation exercises (legal, perception and profitability risks)
- Development, testing and updating of business compliance control flows and methodologies for pricing and contracting.
- Lead existing and new investigations with reference to Pricing decisions
- Collaborate with Business Ops / Category team to implement / analyse Pricing Framework & Promotion programs

Lead Price Modelling and Reshaping the price structure
- Ongoing development and optimization of relevant Pricing models to reflect the pricing principles as they develop over time;
includes changes and enhancements in reporting and calculations in support of price negotiations.
